We wear n95 masks , face shields or googles all the time and aprons and gloves when we go in to see a patient.

Ours is not a very big hospital and in my 10 hr shift there must have been 20-25 covid positive patients which is a lot for us.

Hats off to you for the incredible and selfless work you are putting in for the humanity. 25 is too much in a day. I hope you keep taking adequate precautions and stay safe.

Don't you get totally drained out when you reach home? and what about the shortage of staff? did they provide you with more staff to handle so many patients?

Thanks for you wishes. It's team work from the cleaners, the admin staff to the nurses and doctors to the allied staff and the contribution of everyone is incredible and important.

There is staff shortage and that is why staff is being pulled in from other parts of the hospital.

It was always bound to happen in Australia. Australia closed the borders completely and thought the virus will go away completely. It will have to rip through the population before we reach herd immunity. McGowan is just delaying the inevitable in WA. WA hospitals are in shambles at the moment. He didn’t fix the hospital system as he promised when he won the election and it’s now the worst it has been. On top of that we have staff shortages with all the mandates being introduced.

Every time I finish work I go home convinced I have Covid because we are seeing so many covid patients. This is always a bit terrifying because my mother lives with me and I don't want her to get sick.

Last week we were seeing the younger vaccinated and well cohort, this week we are seeing their crumblier and sicker grandparents for some of whom this will be a terminal event.

We are also again seeing the unvaccinated younger patients who are so much sicker than their unvaccinated counterparts that I now think that anyone who is unvaccinated has a death wish.

As expected our death rates have gone up and will likely go up even more.

It is so sad to see the nursing home patients- they have done all the right things and yet have been failed by the health services. Many of them did not have a great quality of life to begin with and maybe something else would have killed them yet Covid is a particularly harsh way to die given how alone and isolated you 're in your dying days.

And then there are the unvaxxed- last week we had a patient ,obese with breathing problems because he is obese and last I checked he is still in ICU still as sick as the day he came in and expected to not make it.

Covid spooks me in how atypical the body's response is to lack of oxygen. Usually low oxygen makes people agitated and distressed yet with Covid other than work of breathing you wouldn't even know the person has low oxygen levels.

The suicidal ideation rate in the patient population I manage has increased massively and I haven’t worn make up since April 2020. But I can’t say I hate the latter part

Covid's back again in my part of the world.

Am seeing increasing presentations again . I think the last wave killed the unvaxxed older folks so this time am seeing the not so unwell vaxxed and more kids as well.

The presentations are so varied- one of my colleagues just had a sore throat while one of my patients had a racing heart rate while the other had vomiting and felt very deconditioned and short of breath.

Many of my work mates are getting covid ,so we are going to be even more understaffed than usual in an unusually busy time in our hospitals.

Stay safe @dahiballe

So are they going to bring back lockdown & mask mandate again or was it already in place and never relaxed since 2020?

Bold - You mean vaxxed and kids are dying this time?
