'Katayi Nahi Kaha Ke Rani Padmavati KAYAR Thi': Swara Bhasker CLARIFIES After BACKLASH On Recent Statement

Swara Bhasker has addressed the controversy surrounding a comment she made while discussing the climax of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. The actress recently shared a video on social media to explain what she had actually said, claiming that her words were being mistranslated and presented in a misleading manner.

Speaking about the claims circulating online, Swara said, “Maine kuch kaha tha jo ab sarasar galat tareeke se anuvadit ho raha hai aur jo ek jhooth bana kar failaya ja raha hai.”

According to Swara, a clip from her earlier statement has been shared with the claim that she had described Rani Padmavati and the other women who chose Jauhar as cowards. She strongly denied making any such statement.

“Main clearly ye kehna chahti hoon ki maine katayi aisa nahi kaha ki Rani Padmavati kayar thi ya wo baaki mahal ki raaniyan aur auratein jinhone Jauhar kiya tha wo kayar thi.”

The actress went on to explain her comments by translating what she had originally said into Hindi. She also responded to those who had criticised and abused her over the controversy, saying that people should first understand her statement before making accusations.

“Jo log mujhe gaaliyan dena chahte hain, dijiye, lekin sahi cheez pe dijiye,” she said.

Explaining the context behind her original comment, Swara said her reaction came while watching the final sequence of Padmaavat. She said her words were about how she personally might have felt if she had been a victim of sexual violence.

“While watching the climax, I felt that god forbid if I would have been a rape victim, I would have felt like a coward that I did not kill myself.”

Swara further explained that the statement was connected to her concerns about the prevalence of sexual violence in society. She described rape as having become an “epidemic” and pointed towards what she called a deeply troubling environment surrounding the issue.

“Ham ek thriving rape culture ke beech mein rehte hain.”

Through her clarification, Swara maintained that her original statement was not intended as a comment on the courage or character of Rani Padmavati or the women who performed Jauhar. Instead, she said it was a personal reaction to the larger issue of sexual violence and the circumstances surrounding her thoughts while watching the film.
