I don't even understand what Aryan is doing now. I called him mature but his current moments feel like a pissing contest? Like hahaha I stole Imlie from you AKT. And Imlie's 100% NOT consenting to any of it. I would've been completely okay if Imlie was okay with it. But she grinding on her teeth, forced to engage.

They had a good opportunity with Imlie being in danger in the box. But kya karein!

'Gaslighting' is one of those words that got really popular in many forums these last two years or so. Any TV show character they dislike, viewers will call it abusive or gaslighting. However, when I did a bit of research, it turned out that most people actually have no idea what the real word means and actually use it wrong.

The term 'gaslighting' actually comes from an old black and white movie called 'Gaslight' -- in the movie, the woman thinks she is going out of her mind but her husband is actually making her think she is going crazy when she isn't. So he will hide things and make it seem like she forgot and hid them. The reason he does that is because he is a criminal and is actually wanting to steal some jewels or something like that.

Anyway, in the modern context, it refers to psychological mind games where the agressor turns it around and makes the victim feel like they are at fault. So if there is an argument where the victim is asking "how could you do that?", the agressor will turn the argument around and make the victim guilty for questioning the agressor.

Firstly, how bad was the script and editing and direction?

Like, you have literally one of the greatest West Indies sides— with Clive, Richards, Bird, Holding— getting their aases handed to them by an underdog Indian team. With an out of form Gavaskar. Why would you write a script that dramatises everything but the cricket?

You have literally one of the greatest Indian Cricketing stories in Lala Amaranth and Mohinder Amaranth, and you choose to reduce that to two bits? When you had Jimmy Amaranth and Dalqueer playing the respective roles?

You reduce Roger Binny's screenspace to nothingness and have time for weirdly caricaturish calypso playing for Black players and spectators?

Why was the cricket so bad?

Ranveer and bronzer make a couple destined for hell.

Why was everyone acting so poorly apart from Dalqueer? Why were Boman and Pankaj so bad? They are never bad.

What was the roles of the WAGs apart from looking pretty around Deepika?

I literally cannot even begin with this movie. You have said EVERYTHING I had in my mind. The reason I find this hilarious that they made this story badly. Like you don't even have to write a script - it's no kidding that it was one of the most historic moments of cricket. You have the underdogs, you have the odds against them. So how could you literally make this bad? For a moment that has so much history written into it, one needed NUANCE and SUBTLETY to let you feel the impact. Ugh. I don't have words. Somebody please show them Chak De to show how a match must be shot? The direction was sorely lacking. There was excessive focus in getting the actors to look like the characters, but unfortunately nothing was done to make them act the part. As much as I want to crib about Ranveer and his bronzer - I will put more blame on the direction cause you do have one of the best actors in your hand and you know something is wrong with the direction if MAJORITY of the cast was acting caricature-ish instead of 'acting'. You know what I mean? I had the highest hopes on this film. As a filmmaker, making this story and getting the funding and cast should've been a dream come true. Why the f-ck did they overdramatize this is beyond me.

Not me confusing Saqib and Dalqueer for the nth time in my life. But I genuinely can't believe how lazy Bollywood has gotten with scripts. It's almost as if they think that they can throw in a bunch of buzzwords and it will sell. It's pathetic that it's true.

In Chak De, if I am not mistaken, barring a couple, most did play professional hockey. Even the foreigners.That itself lends to the authenticity. Not sure if that's the case in 83. Also, SRK was in the stands. Whereas in 83, the "hero" is on the field..Unfortunately, the film was named 83..and not Kapil Dev. The over the top focus on just Ranveer could have been avoided.Directing a biopic on team vs a single person is different cuz the attention ought to be distributed. As you said, emphasis was on the theatrics..not on the script.
