One school girl in the interview (where the protest is going on) made a nice point.

She said if everyone will start coming with their religious symbols, that will differentiate more. And not unite us. It shows who is what. And that’s not educational institution stands for.
I liked the way she said it.

Toh your school didn't allow Sardars with turbans?

Yup good point made by her. Someone even asking in this thread why 'force' students for all this why they don't have choiceto wear whatever they want or do whatever they want!?

Bas ab educational institutions hi bache the wo bhi corrupt kardo.. hum jab school mai the ye sab bavaal nhi hua. For us competition and getting more numbers from fellow classmates mattered more than what religion they were practicing..

Interesting question, where does it stop, can a Digambara Jain turn up naked to school, and claim he should be able to practice his religion without restrictions?

There are highly educated women in all walks of life who are wearing hijaab and going along with their daily lives......DG posted the pic of a Army officer wearing a hijaab...does anyone in their right mind can think that a girl who is protecting our borders can be made to wear a hijaab by force....their are models who wear hijaab ...do you think they are forced...there are teachers, lawyers, doctors, business women who wear hijaab....no one is forcing them....if anything is done by force and not choice of course that will be wrong...

The question here is why can't a girl wear hijaab but a sardar is allowed to wear his head covering....let us forget about why hijaab is or is not right.....but if one religion is being given the freedom to wear a head cover...why not the other one...

Just to make it clear I am not saying burqa or naqaab should be allowed just because of security reasons...

BI ji, point is not about the few who make the conscious choice. Point is about the millions who DON'T get that choice. They have to wear it, no questions asked.

I'm a huge proponent of freedom of expression, which includes clothing. Thing is not wearing that hijab is also freedom of expression.

The choice is not black and white between freedom of choice/hijab on one hand and government dictates on the other. The issue is what do you pick between? Freedom of choice for a few WHO ALREADY HAVE MANY FREEDOMS like the officer you mentioned and poor girls who have VERY FEW FREEDOMS WHATSOEVER.

The decision is between adding one more freedom to those women who already are in a position to make that choice versus girls who need a helping hand.

I think society should err on the side of the weak who cannot help themselves.

How is a tiny bindi comparable to a garment that covers a significant part of one's body? Worse, which school allows bindi? Genuine question.

A Sikh boy doesn't have the choice to wear his turban on a Monday and discard it for a Domino's visit on a Tuesday. Turban is a necessity due to the uncut hair. Both are not the same.

Pertinent question here is no one seems to have answer for what is the reason behind Sikh boy wearing Turban and Muslim girl wearing hijab?

@Zeal. I can answer that question. Hijab and assorted head and face coverings were designed to CONTROL women. Sardar trappings are not.

What is this? An interrogation? Stick to the topic in hand guys. Hijab is observed for modesty. Do people normally go around and ask women what their intentions are on how they dress or why they decide to practice their religion? Is that the norm now? The topic is not about why the religion mandates the hijab. It’s about the education system and uniforms. I believe that if the school has strict uniform policies that does not allow any religious attire/objects (Hindu/Christian/Islamic/Sikh etc) then seek another organisation that’s in line with your beliefs. Do I agree with such strict policies? Absolutely not. But if that’s how it’s been mandated from day one then so be it.

Empowerment = Authority or power given to someone to do something. The process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s life and claiming one’s right.

By that definition, the feeling of empowerment is subjective to the individual. Giving a woman the right and power to choose what she does with her body, whether it’s to wear a hijab or not would give her a sense of empowerment. No one in this world, I repeat NO ONE has the right to decide what should be considered empowering or not. Not you, not me, not anyone.

Feminism means supporting women’s right for equality. I swear to God, I don’t understand why it’s so hard to comprehend that dictating a woman on how to dress goes against the concept entirely. Let them choose for fucks sake. Also to the member who keeps bringing the 5 and 10% statistics out of their arse, please stop talking on behalf of Muslims regarding what they do or don’t want. Go do a survey and please personally approach every Muslim woman on the planet and ask them what they want. Do the calculations, write it up in the sky, sing it to One Direction, do whatever you want with the findings but don’t talk on behalf of a religion as if you’re living and practicing it on a daily basis.

In conclusion to my essay

Before a member jumps down my throat swinging their swords, this comment is in response to members questioning the general concept of the Hijab. I’ve already mentioned my stance on the Burqa. I don’t agree with a full face cover but seeing as it doesn’t affect my life or income, I couldn’t care less if you walk around naked or covered head to toe, so long as it’s your choice.

What about a girl who wants to wear a hijaab in school and in Dominos because she wants to follow what her religion mandates??

Again a lot of religious practices are regressive in every religion....people still want to follow them because that is the right thing to do according to them...Kanyadaan for instance.....highly regressive....hai himmat iske against awaaz uthane ki??

That is for another debate.....I am just asking why the head cover for one religion should be allowed and not allowed for the other?
