You didn't answer my question what is the intent of Sikh boy wearing Turban and Muslim girl wearing Hijab?

Also answe this How is wearing Hijab women empowerment? If it's about having a choice. Then yes they have that choice once they graduate from educational institutions to wear hijab. Infact actually they can wear Hijab until they enter school premises. That was the norm in some of my Muslim Classmates who in class used to remove it and while going back used to wear it.

Diff between Sikh turban and Muslim face covering is that Sikh turban doesn't usually infringe on the rights of the wearer. Ir is just a religious symbol.. There have been many who discarded it. Face coverings are DESIGNED to control women.

Can the people who post here claiming it's a choice honestly state that the *choice* aspect is not misused to coerce women? What percentage of the women wearing face coverings do so voluntarily?

Let's talk choice when women who don't want to wear it are not forced to. Then it becomes an actual choice. Not until then.

No religion should come before human rights.

ETA. I get hijab is a headscarf, but there are those talking about face coverings also.

ETA 2. An Iranian friend of mine told me her story of being fined heavily because 2 strands of hair were escaping from under her hijab. She moved to the U.S. as soon as she could manage, dyed her hair a brassy blonde, never returned to her the place that used to be her home country. Incredibly smart doctor. Iran's loss. America's gain.

Hijab aka headscarf was not an issue then, now or it will not be even tomorrow. Muslim Girls in school institutions are free to wear Hijab but outside the class settings. They will have their personal right to wear Hijab once the graduate.

Exactly. Let's ban bindi in educational institutions (teachers as well as students). Let's ban sindoor, mangalsutra for the women educators as well then.

So it's ok for a Hindu girl to wear a bindi to school even though it is NOT a religious mandate, but it is not ok for a muslim girl to wear a Hijab.

Now coming to the topic, I see why a Burqa would be banned. But what exactly is the issue with a hijab? People here are freely allowed to wear whatever they want, Hijab or Bikinis.. so glad to be living in Europe and not another extremist country (India/Pak).

I don't think you can equate India with Pakistan, not to generalize but likely there is more religious freedom in India than Pakistan. We should make sure that it continues to be that way, and keep it a more secular country. I will ask what would happen to someone wearing saffron with a Hindu religious symbol in a Pakistani school? I feel it's slightly hypocritical that more restrictive societies aren't criticized the same, not even Pakistan necessarily but places where women can't even probably go to school, let alone wear a hijab to school? not to say any restriction of freedom of speech or religion should be ignored in India.

And people should be allowed to wear a hijab , a head scarf, if they want to, but I think schools have historically dictated uniforms, didn't think hijab would have been part of that, or they may have asked it to match school colors? but uniform always has been a local school thing, not a political thing, and it should stay at the school level and then go through courts. and if that route doesn't work then protest. not automatically a protest. it may have happened but haven't followed this story.

But as a feminist, a hindu, would like to know the religious purpose of hijab? is it comparable to purdah? never agreed with the misogynistic practices of Hinduism, ie menstruating women not allowed do pooja etc. all personal choices but somewhere advocating certain "religious rights" is one step forward, 2 steps back for women?" not to say hijab is but curious to know the religious significance of hijab? but I agree if men are allowed to wear their head coverings then why not women their hijab?

Literally people here I can engage with for a debate is shrinking everyday. Either they start talking nonsense or will run away from answering.

Which school allows Bindi on school students? Our school didn't allow Bindi, nailpolish and makeup. Girls were mandated to make two pony tails. Boys weren't allowed to grow long hairs. N gender was allowed to color hairs or have tattoo.

Our nails were checked every fcking day and were made to cut in school long nails and repeated offences were fined.

There are highly educated women in all walks of life who are wearing hijaab and going along with their daily lives......DG posted the pic of a Army officer wearing a hijaab...does anyone in their right mind can think that a girl who is protecting our borders can be made to wear a hijaab by force....their are models who wear hijaab ...do you think they are forced...there are teachers, lawyers, doctors, business women who wear hijaab....no one is forcing them....if anything is done by force and not choice of course that will be wrong...

The question here is why can't a girl wear hijaab but a sardar is allowed to wear his head covering....let us forget about why hijaab is or is not right.....but if one religion is being given the freedom to wear a head cover...why not the other one...

Just to make it clear I am not saying burqa or naqaab should be allowed just because of security reasons...
