I know ki EK would have us feel ki jo bhi rich log hote hai woh ek dum callous hote hai and who don't give two shits about people who work for them. But that is not really true. Especially if they are old money, as Ram is shown to be. He would know that he has to treat his employees, and people who gives him services with respect and gratitude. No one can run a large organisation and not know that.
So Ram thanking that guard because of Priya is something that I couldn't buy. It was uncharacteristic. And it kinda cheapened Ram's character coz agar aap ko basic manners aapke significant other se seekhni pade toh what sort of an individual are you?
I think it was quite acceptable. As much as Ram is an old school when it comes to love , and is shown as a complete family person, he has some traits of a typical rich person. I found him snobbish in many episodes.
The very first episode ,he could not recollect his address and said ' Ram Kapoor ka ghar ,samundar ke aage'.
I have noticed that the first solution that he always thinks of when in a problem is to solve it with money or his power/status.
Remember the autorickshaw scene, where he wanted the driver to drop him first instead of Priya. His first instinct was to tell the driver ,that he would pay thrice the fair which irked Priya so much. The actual reason was him being late for his sister's engagement, but this actual reason was the last thing he said when all possibilities got exhausted.
Again consider the difference in Ram and Priya's approach when they wanted to enter the gymn without card. Priya requested, bickered ,ultimately tricked and went in ,but left a note saying she is not cheating.
Ram's solution to the problem was to threaten the receptionist by calling the owner of the gymn. I understand that holding a card will be a very petty thing for Ram, when he has the capability to own the entire building. He clearly doesn't respect rules much.
So i think when it comes to employees , i am sure he does not take them for granted. He must have his own ways of being thankful ,like giving them monetary benefits, bonus etc. But he must be oblivious of things like how much a 'Thank you ' can mean to an employee, sometimes even more than materialistic benefits, because you feel respected. I think Priya can surely influence him in reducing his snobbish behaviour.
I was far too busy drowning in his eyes!!!
