I also think, that he isn't a man easy to live with but he is willing to understand her, so I think, he really deserved a 2nd chance.

BTW, the end reminded me of the Musical/film "My Fair Lady" where she comes back and gives the pantoufles to Professor Higgins...

Based on Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw, in the book she doesn’t end up with Higgins. She marries the other guy who is head over heals in love with her.

This film was torture.
