Amazing post once again. Been wanting to drop in since morning but wanted to come at a time I could properly leave a comment.
This show...uff. I love it, but their handling of sensitive topics is preposterous. Physical violence is kadar normalize kar rakhi hai, ki dekhna mushkil ho chuka hai, and they've been doing it right from the beginning. Beech mein they toned it down, after a fair amount of backlash, but so damn disheartened to see it again today.
A spouse hitting another is not okay, whether husband or wife, and playing a comical background music doesn't make the scene funny. I remember the jhaadu scene made me so uncomfortable, but baaki episode accha tha, so theek hai, moved forward. But today was an unpleasant reminder. I said this back then, I'll say it again- we saw Sulochana hit Milind with a jhaadu in an early episode, and Pallavi is not, and has never been, a Sulochana kind of wife. I found Pallavi's anger and irritation justified today, but her picking up the stick and hitting Raghav with it felt like a disservice to her character, just like jhaadu day had. And him raising his hand felt like a disservice to his, but I won't talk about that since he held himself.
I just wish ITV would realize that violent outbursts are not the only way to convey frustration and anger. In fact, it takes away from the moment, as it makes the violence the crux of the scene instead of the underlying emotions.
Iss show ki violence has made me want to quit it so many times, but attachment waapis kheech laati hai.
Why did Anjali's fiance have to slap her?? Why did Sulochana have to beat Amrutha up that way after the abortion track? What gave Jaya the right to slap Sulochana for bad mouthing Pallavi hospital mein?? Or Sharada the right to rain slaps on Raghav?? And then imagine, a husband hitting his wife with a stick- it would never be played for laughs, and seeing it be played like that was upsetting.
It's an unfortunate reflection of the double standard in our society :(
