Style of giving surprise, also a gist of Sai the girl

Another post from me. Had actually posted a day back that I won’t be active from next week and can’t get into discussions this week too. It is just not happening. Was thinking of just deleting my account since I feel even logout won’t help 🙈. Found something called hibernation in my account page, my last resort to stay away would be that.

Warning : Yet another lengthy post.

I had contemplated a lot if I should post the below or not and had actually typed this as a comment under Neeraja’s thread, but have decided to post it as a separate one. It is to shed some light on how some people think or act. It is to show another perspective of the same scenario. Many are unhappy with what Sai did and some did understand her intentions and were okay with it. Let me share my views on it.

Before I begin, just want to let you all know that I probably won’t be replying to your comments. I apologise in advance for the same. I thought of posting this one before I log out or even hiberanate (as a last resort).

I have a mixed feeling about Sai’s actions. Her intentions are pure and I also understand that she wants to keep it a secret and give a surprise. I know it because I am one of those who likes to give surprises and maintain it. Virat’s concern is valid and is understandable. As a person who likes to keep surprise as surprise, I understand Sai as well. Infact, is that not what Virat did? He chose not to wish her in the midnight and many including me felt that he could have atleast wished her and kept the party alone as a surprise. I had a mixed feeling about that as well. I also had read a few comments/views who had said that they didn’t find it wrong. It is all just perspectives. Even then, we all felt bad and I especially felt Virat could have wished when she took out her aabas photo after trying to wake him up when he was pretending to be asleep. It could have been a stupid idea as some of us felt but it was also his way of doing it.

I couldn’t help but think, even that day, he thought of doing in that style and was so carried away with the thought of surprising that he didn’t think of the emotional aspects of it or didn’t think that he could probably wish her and not let her feel bad until the party. I tried to look at as him wanting to keep it a secret, let her think that no one had remembered her birthday and give her a big surprise in the evening. And as he had expected Sai was too delighted, was blown away. As I have said, that is also something I might think of, since I am a person who likes surprises to be surprises and can maintain it as a secret. But even when I plan a surprise, I wouldn’t stop myself from wishing if they are part of the family and won’t wait till the evening but all these depends on from person to person and situations as well. But, we thought about Sai’s position that day since she is an orphan and no one else in the family wished her too which can deject her and make her feel lonely.

Similarly, we can look at this scenario with varying perspectives. I don’t find it wrong when Sai wanted to keep it a secret and as long as Virat didn’t strongly object to it and let her be. I also do understand the perspectives of people who feel that she could have answered Virat since she was carrying a huge cash. I had also thought about it and wasn’t really sure if it was right even when I can understand her motive behind keeping it a secret. In the entire conversation, I felt that they both started to talk about a lot of things since the topic kept getting diverted. As much as Sai wanted to keep it a secret, she could see Virat’s concern too.

Her nature is such that she can joke or try to make things light hearted. The dialogue from the previous episode where she said “oho Virat sir, aapne toh Poora mahaul hi serious kar diya” shows that she doesn’t want him to route a conversation into a different direction or make it a serious one.

It was a moment of happiness and she didn’t want to think about anything bad and spoil that. Infact both were upset when she spoke this but both had tried to cheer themselves up and the other one too. Virat was the one who hid his hurt and asked her if she liked the ring and Sai, as always again hid her disappointment and hurt and started to smile and reply to him.

Hence, even in this scene, she was joking many a times and at the end too.

He kept asking her what the money was for, but her prime motive was to maintain it as a secret, without realising that she was carrying a huge amount of money and so it only makes sense to not play in such things or not to try to keep these as secret. This is where the issue is, when a person decide on a style of doing things, like surprising someone just like how Virat thought of, they get carried away thinking about the end result, thinking about how happy the person or everyone would be when they come to know or see what they did, that they fail to realise other aspects of it. Like how Virat had failed to see that Sai was getting hurt and was crying looking at her Aaba’s picture. This is all stupid, this is the exact thing that I had said when Virat did it too, that he was being stupid. But, in this case, it doesn’t just involve Virat but also involves the family, that family who are orthodox, who keeps finding faults with every action of hers, where one person is in a constant look out to put her down. Hence, we all feel that it should have been best that Sai informed them of atleast Virat. Yes, Sai has hid a few things and she does them and faces consequences later. It is not just her but Virat and Ashwini also get to hear taunts from the family because of her. But if we look at it, only because of these, that we feel that Sai should have informed Virat. It her her style, just a way to keep the surprise as surprise. At that point of time, her emotions didn’t allow her to think of the repercussions of her act. Some feel that there has been no growth in Sai, but I don’t agree with it. I am also unhappy with her in a few things especially the way she responded to Virat, when he had asked her not to repeat it after they returned from the college fest. I was even then thinking if it had entered the girls head and if she would mend her ways or not.

The reason why I feel there are changes in Sai is, that she has many a times remembered to reach home on time. She had even called up Ashwini to inform they will be late when Virat had suggested they go out for lunch or dinner and get gifts for Harini. Even Virat had forgotten and Sai was the one who remembered to inform them saying it will become a big hungama. She had also asked him if his family will have objections if she gifts Pakhi’s parents. Even when they were in the car, even if she would have wanted to spend time with Virat, enjoy her gift, she ran into the house saying it was her birthday and they can’t let people wait for them and Kaku would get really upset. There has been times when she thinks about them getting upset or not and acts accordingly.

Many weren’t happy with the way she had left the car but to me, it looked like a couple thing where the husband didn’t think through it and just pulled his wife to get some privacy but the wife knows about the family, knows what’s the right thing to do and even if she would want to spend the time as much as her husband, she would be made to take a call. It was Sai’s birthday, she had come out to fetch water, then it was quite understandable for her to rush as soon as she heard what Ashwini said. It was the same girl who was hinting Virat to take a day off since she had a day off. Also, the gift was given back to Virat because she didn’t have a purse or pocket to keep it in. There can be many reasons for a wife to do it, they would feel shy if someone caught them with a gift suddenly when they disappeared, also in CN a ruby became a big issue. Sai had to hear a lot of things against Virat and also had to hear that she demands things from Virat and so many other accusations. Even if it looked like Sai rushed out of the car and wouldn’t have thought of it, she actually did because that’s how it works in real life too. People just act instinctively, they are on alert in such things.

Coming back to the surprise and secret that Sai wanted to maintain, I have shared the above few examples to say that she does think about the family and what they would say. It all started ever since Ashwini scolded her and Virat on the day of admission as why they couldn’t call her up and inform. I have said this before too, Virat had not called up anyone and informed where he was when he was with the other Samrat in the hospital. He is a guy who is usually responsible but then how didn’t he think of the family, well sometimes emotions drive people to act or go out of their own character. And in this case, Sai is a girl who gets carried away with excitement which is another form of an emotion and in that excitement, didn’t realise that it is the same house and same people from whose taunts she tries to escape by returning from college early or who she rings up and informs. I am sure that she would have reasons such as her phone got switched off and things like that. She must have thought that she will be able to reach home early or lost track of time while finding the gift or selecting it and all.

I can understand Virat’s anger or worry, can also understand why Sai wanted to keep it a secret even from Virat. All that she said to Virat that she is an adult or that she can take care of herself is all her age that is speaking. The young blood in her is driving her actions in a way, making her act with an excitement, or by defending herself when someone calls her a kid or by saying she can take care of herself and doesn’t need someone to protect her.

There are people in real life who would not even accept help from others wanting to show that they are quite independent. Sometimes it is good and sometimes it turns out bad which they don’t even realise. They always don’t do it out of arrogance, do it so that they don’t become dependent on others or don’t trouble others or not to bother others. In the process of trying to not bother them, they can end up anyway disturbing them which they would have never anticipated. Such are the actions of Sai which is not out of arrogance but out of her own way of thinking where she wouldn’t anticipate issues or where she wouldn’t have thought that Virat or Ashwini can fall into issues because of her because she would have planned to reach early but that would have failed. The PD incident was not because Sai wasn’t willing to answer Virat but it was because she was already upset with Virat after the Ladakh incident, after her confronting him about Pakhi that she started to show attitude to him by not willing to answer. The family and Virat’s words drove her to act even more adamant. I could understand Virat’s concern even then. But after they sorted out their issues, Sai had told him that she herself would let him know what it is when it is the right time. That was a serious thing and she later understood that she should be sharing it with him. This is a very small thing as per her since she is just giving a surprise. If only she understood the gravity of the situation, not just the Chavans but also the risk aspects that gets associated when one carries huge amount of money.

Sai understands certain things when being taught to her or explained to her by Virat but when Virat brings up guardian stuffs or age, she acts touchy. It is her young age which makes her want to show that she is not a kid and he need not act that protective, it is also to do with the fact that he once used to ask Pakhi to guide her which hurt her, which had offended her. Hence, even simple statements like these makes her think that he has no confidence in her or he doesn’t trust she can manage it.

Her thought process works in a stupid and silly way like how she asked if he wanted to know what she was doing it only because he was lending her the money. It can also go into another tangent when he talks about her being a kid or him to be a guardian. I don’t blame Virat since it is very natural for him to ask her those. The talk about Ajinkya also diverted the topic and she is getting annoyed that he brings him up very often and asks her wierd questions. Auch questions can make a person think if they do not trust them.

Sai is a person in whose head, there are a lot of different thoughts snd who goes through a multitude of emotions at a single point of time. As much as she was trying to prove to him that she can take care of herself since she is not a kid but an adult, when he said that he would want to know what she did with the money, she again started to get mischievous and said that she will share only if she feels like. That is her, who can get serious but also get mischievous. She also knows that once she gets the gift home, he will anyway come to know what the money was for. She also knows that he will be happy for his Dad. She doesn’t do things expecting appreciation or results out of it, hence she wouldn’t think that Virat will be proud of her but will only think that Virat will be happy if his Dad pursues what he once wanted to.

Sai is a coconut who is hard at the outer surface but is actually soft. Her words can be harsh many a times but her actions or intentions can never be to harm anyone, it will only make one or the other happy. If Virat is a peacemaker, Sai is the girl who would want people to be happy and would try to spread happiness around her. She has to mend her ways, her approach has to be corrected in a few things. Her thought process that she only did it with a good intention and that good can be achieved in silly and atrangi ways has to be corrected. Even if she doesn’t take it seriously now or hasn’t reflected some of her actions, just like how I say for Virat, she will also learn from her mistakes, by facing consequences out of those actions. At the end of the day Sai and Virat are a couple and one’s actions will in one way or the other can affect the other too. That’s how I see it as. Both of them don’t realise what the other will have to face due to their own actions. They have got married, have been living together, have bonded too but still lack understanding of each other. Their marital life is not like a regular one and haven’t really begun their journey as a couple too. They first have to accept each other as husband and wife, as their life partner, solve all the existing issues between them before they get to the stage of always bearing in mind as how their action could impact the other.

The post is only to share my understanding of the character Sai. I was myself upset that after reaching home, in her excitement, she failed to realise that she was late and people at home would be worried for her. I just thought, I can explain her action of maintaining the secret even from Virat. It is this understanding that doesn’t let me think that she doesn’t respect Virat or she doesn’t care about him or that she is doing it all out of arrogance. Thought of some of you would be interested to understand her in this angle. Even if we do not approve of such actions, we can still consider it as an action out of stupidity or being silly and not an “I don’t care attitude” action.

I was surprised that Virat let her go at the end and didn’t call her once before he reached home to just check if she was safe and what she did with the money or if she managed to do whatever she wanted to do with the money. Even if he didn’t find time from his work, thought he might have called her before he started home. This also shows that the show wants to exaggerate a certain things because not many people would act like Sai carrying so much of cash and not many would act like Virat too who would be okay until he returned home and call Sai as if she never carried money. If not for anything, they could have shown a lesser amount but I guess they wanted to make it dramatic and so that the whole family reacts this way. How else can they give us a dialogue about drugs 🤣.

Once again, I wouldn’t be around to reply to all of your comments. Apologies for the same. Signing off now.

You have said very well and it's true.

My opinion fir Sai keeping secrets and not informed about being late is teenage things from this when she saw what happened because of her this act how much pepoles are worried then she will realise and will not do again and will say sorry. I want virat also make her understand mature way calmly.

I remember I had done same thing after 12 th when my PMT classes was going on I went to watch movie from classes without informing mom. And I got late at evening because of traffic at that time I don't had mobile. My parents was very angree and all my brother and friends was searching me that was lesson. So here I understand sai how her mind worked here

You know Laksh, I'm just wondering how that pathetic family of elders have not changed their ways, let alone the name calling of Sai and she is a BAHU of this house, they refer to her as 'yeh ladki' as the most decent 'form' of address for her, then why should Sai conform to their ways?

They all know and have ganged up with that beast to sit there spewing nonsense after nonsense daily and they still believe that reptile because it suits their purpose to use her words to instigate Sai and make a joke out of everything.

Till date has anything that reptile said be true against Sai?

Sai has time and again been proven to be an honest and fearless girl.

I'm glad the cv's are keeping her to her character (bear in mind I've only watched a limited number of episodes).

We as audience feel drained seeing what Sai has to undergo daily, imagine being in her place. That's why I prefer her 'devil may care' attitude where she understands many things but tries to brush them off.

This family is blood ducking vultures. They won't understand or appreciate her goodness - bcz there's nothing like that in any of them.

I loved the way Shivani stood up for her many times.

At first I thought thank goodness Samrats new mother has a voice - but now realise it's only to stop Shivani speaking sense and calling out vultures.

Y isn't she stopping her pathetic bahu and garbage that she's letting out?

Sometimes even Ashwini annoys me. If she knows Sai is honest and hasn't been involved in anything bad then why can't she be firm that "I don't need to question my Sai, because as a mother I have complete faith in her. But other's who use their hate for her to instigate family members against a member of this family I have no faith in them" (ie beast didi)

Wonderfully put as always, Laksh.

I really admire how you always see the perspectives of both Virat and Sai, as I try to do the same. I genuinely believe that to this date, both of them have been at fault for every single fight or problem that has occurred between them. While they are different in many ways, at the crux, they share an impulsivity and tendency to let their hearts completely overpower their minds....and both of these traits are heightened when they are together, because they love each other the most...this is the reason for so many of the explosions that happen in their relationship.

Getting to your points about Sai, I think that often times she seems impossible to understand...both to us and to Virat. But, at the end of the day, she is just a girl who was forced up to grow up too soon. She lost her her entire family at such a young age and she ended up marrying a man who told her not to expect anything from him. Then, she moved into a house where she was domestically abused nearly every day. All of these things combined are enough to break even the strongest of all people. Except, instead of becoming cold, Sai became even warmer than she already was. She accepted people who treated her like their enemy as her family. And despite all she has gone through, her biggest goal in life is just to see those she loves happy...and she is willing to go to any lengths to make that happen. This is exactly what happened with the entire Pulkit-Devi track. All she wanted was to see Devi happy. And, she was willing to risk it all in order to make that happen. She did things that seemed stupid or illogical at the time, but her intentions were simply to reunite the woman she considers her sister with her husband after learning about everything she had been through.

In keeping the harmonium a secret from everyone, Sai was not just trying to surprise Ninand. She was trying to surprise the entire family. Sai saw how everyone was so excited when talking about Ninand's passion for music and how so many of the members did not even know about this part of his past altogether...even Virat had never heard him sing. So, in not telling anyone, she wanted everyone to experience that happiness when she finally revealed the harmonium to Ninand. See, in Sai's eyes, happiness in a family is shared by everyone, as everyone is connected. This is also why she always tries to include Pakhi in everything, no matter how illogical it may seem. She cannot bear to see anyone left out. This is ironic, because she grew up without a family around her, and yet, often times it seems as though she understands the meaning of family better than almost anyone else in CN. I guess it's true that you don't realize the value of something that you have had your entire life, because you start to take it for granted.

All of this is not to say that Sai does not have her faults. Obviously, it would have been the responsible thing to tell Virat where she was going with all of that cash or even send him a text when she knew her phone was about to die that she would be home late. But, when Sai puts her mind to something , she often loses track of all else. She had already made up her mind about giving the surprise, so she was going to see that through no matter what with the purest of intentions. This is not to say that she does not trust Virat or takes him for granted. There are numerous examples I can give that prove just how much she trusts him...that show that after abba, he is the one she trusts the most. But, she was so excited about surprising Ninand and the rest of the family (Virat included) that all else went out the window. Something else that stood out to me yesterday was when Sai tells Aai that Virat isn't letting her enter her own house... this is HUGE progress. She finally considers this house to be her's. It was a small line, but it spoke volumes. The first and foremost reason she considers this to be her house is Virat. By wanting the acceptance of Virat's family, she is wanting to get even closer to Virat. She knows what his family means to him...he has made it clear to her since the very first day she entered. These people, however horrible they may be to her, are extensions of Virat. And for her to go to such lengths for them, in my opinion, is ultimately also an indication of just how much she values Virat himself.

I've been going on about Sai, but just want to end by circling back to what I started with. I truly felt bad for Virat yesterday. On one hand, he was terrified out of his mind for his wife's safety, and on the other hand, he was having to defend her while listening to taunts himself by the entire family. Even though he didn't say much, he spoke up when he needed to, and more than that, his expressions made it clear that he did not doubt Sai for a single second. I agree with what many people said yesterday in that Sai should have thought about these things before rushing out without telling him where she was going. But, these things simply did not cross her mind, because she was overwhelmed with excitement for her surprise...and Virat was included in that...I think the example you used with Virat's birthday surprise really fits perfectly here, Laksh.

I feel as though I have been writing from Sai's perspective a lot lately, but I have a feeling that will change next week with the impending doom, because I already can understand where Virat will be coming from....

I don't know if you know it, but I've noticed that you drop a single line of profound wisdom in a lot of your posts. How do you did it girl?😳

Keeping aside my sentiments for the Chavans and my frustration with their whitewashing, @bold this is essentially Sai Joshi along with the that powerful line hey gave her the other day (my dor of happiness lies with me).

Adversity can make anyone be bitter or close their heart, or it can make one become a more compassionate person. For Sai, it has been the latter. This is most seen in her relationship with Ashwini, Virat and Devyani - three people she loves the most. She opened heart to Ashwini almost from the first time they met without an ounce of distrust. Virat is the more demonstrative one in SaiRat relationship - but Sai understands Virat like no one could have - she understands and accepts his weaknesses towards his family despite the pain they give her. And the difficulties and tragedies she has witnessed in her own life made her feel an instant compassion, empathy and connection to Devyani.

P.S. Loved your understanding of Sai.

Keeping aside my sentiments for the Chavans and my frustration with their whitewashing, @bold this is essentially Sai Joshi along with the that powerful line hey gave her the other day (my dor of happiness lies with me).

Your posts are always so wise too, Nethra. I gain so much new perspective from them 😊

And @bolded: This is exactly why I loved the harmonium scene between Ninand and Sai yesterday, even know I completely agree with your frustrations about the whitewashing.
