It's not. A movie has to have a significant influence in pop culture or cinematic folklore to become a cult movie. Or, it should be a game-changer.

That's why cult movies are usually action, horrors, thrillers/crime, comedy (dark or light), satires, or offbeat films. Dramas usually don't achieve cult status unless it's a Citizen Kane or Anand.

The only SLB movie that's near cult status is HDDCS. It's not his best but it has a different fan-following.

When I made Guzaarish on euthanasia, there was hue and cry: Sanjay Leela Bhansali | Entertainment News,The Indian Express

I think so, 100% yes. It is highly rated among movie buffs.

However, I was MAJORLY disappointed when I watched the film in the cinema FDFS.

Today, I like it just slightly more. The soundtrack has also grown on me loads. The two lead performances are and were exemplary, absolutely beautiful Aishwarya and Hrithik were ❤️

(side note) (I reckon a significant part of the reason why I was so disappointed is because I have an old habit of FAMILIARISING myself with a soundtrack before I watch a film, because I want to be able to enjoy the soundscapes more when in the theatre, and it builds hype for me for the film and stuff lol - BUT the problem was the title track*, it insinuates that the film was going to end differently... more tragically, but it didn't and I was left with a self-inflicted anti-climax)

* the song lyrics suggests a very sad and overdramatic and tragic ending, basically his death was supposed to be quite dark and eerie like the song, and I feel that they made it slightly more light hearted as a last minute change.

p.s. it is a BEAUTIFUL title song, and Udi is another all-time favourite of mine. Shout out to Ash killing it in the video ❤️

Critically acclaimed? It was a commercial flop and it was panned by critics. It is a cheap copy of multiple French, Spanish, and Hollywood movies: The Sea Inside, The Prestige, Who's Life is it Anyway, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

It won't be considered cult classic because it is a confused mixture with each scene copied from foreign movies. The lead actor and actress bored the audience to death by their boring acting.

The absolute best part of Guzaarish was this song. So beautifully choreographed. I couldn’t keep my eyes off Aishwarya.

Her so-called beauty could not bring any audience to the theater.

That’s fine with me. I don’t love her because of her box-office pull anyway. ☺️
