Ok ok I know I am nitpicking... I really try to avoid stirring the pot, but I wanted to get this off my chest. This is not a very important issue so please read at leisure and ignore as needed đ€·ââïž Also, please note, this is NOT an angry rant, just some musings.
Whenever I see Maami being appreciated or folks wanting to Shiva to eventually accept Maami, I get low-key anxiety. Donât get me wrong I love Pallavi Rao and her acting, and I would be lying if I say that I am not entertained when she is on the screen- itâs more about the characterâs story arc.
I usually pride myself in being a pretty unbiased viewer, but in light of the backlash for Dharaâs physical abuse and the guys manhandling the wives, I feel very uneasy when Maami is so easily accepted, with expectations that Shiva will one day accept her for Raavi.
What Dhara did was cruel, but what Maami did was pure evil. She made Sumanâs husband get a loan and give her money, and then conveniently refused to give it back. The financial fallout caused Pandya Sr. to loose his life. Pandya Stores got mortgaged because of it. And she happily blamed Gautam for the state of the stores and played a hand in stopping his marriage with Anitha.
But the true cruelty was when she gives an 8 year old Shiva some beggars plates and tells him that he and his family will beg on the streets. I cannot imagine what that must have done to the psyche of a child who has just seen his brother been pushed out of their store, and the store being taken over by goons. That counts for some level of emotional abuse.
But now that she is shown in a comical light, everything is good and well, and we can expect Shiva to eventually start being nice to her for Raaviâs sake. I just cannot get down behind that đ. I wonder if Dhara started to have more fun and light hearted dialogues, or of Dev and Shiva start becoming more romantic, would their previous behaviors be considered null and void.
I would love a story arc where Maami actually repents for her deeds(wonât happen). In the OG, the maami was never cruel, she would just taunt Dhara, so Shiva in that version warming towards Maami made some sense. Here if Shiva just forgives Maami easily, my heart might just break.
PS. Now that I think of it... poor Shiva, he has been majorly emotionally and physically abused at various points in his life. He needs professional counseling đ
