In all honesty, he regretted their kiss. Although his reasons for regretting it were completely different than the ones Purvi had surmised.
From the first moment they had met, she had beguiled him in ways that women had ceased to after Sakshi's passing. He felt captivated by her. Watching her interact with his children pleased him. He felt the stirrings of desire too. But he had been able to ignore them.
Tasting her however had wrecked any sense of control he had over himself, leaving it in shambles.
Each moment he spent away from her brought with it a disquiet he couldn't shake. He felt like a puzzle, with half its pieces missing.
Moments he spent in her company were worse still. Every sense felt heightened and attuned to her. His eyes studied her, trying to commit every small detail to memory. His ears strained to catch the patter of her anklets, the rustling of her lehenga. His mind blanked into silence, as baser instincts took over, making him want to lock themselves in whichever room they were occupying and just…
Virendra dragged a hand over his mouth, trying to suppress the groan of need that had risen from his chest at those carnal thoughts. He was reeling in his desire for her and there was no respite. He was beset with a madness he couldn't shake, a sickness that had no cure.
As he watched the setting sun flood his study with it's golden rays, he wondered if he even wanted to be cured.
He felt her presence without needing to turn. Every cell in his body waited in anticipation as she drew closer to him. He took a long breath to steady himself but only succeeded in drawing a lungful of the soft jasmine scent wafting from her body.
"Mukhi ji," she said. "Hum aap ko thanks bolne aaye the."
"Thanks kyu…" he trailed off as he turned to face her. Heart and breath skipped a beat at her sight.
The blood red saree he had chosen for her gave her creamy complexion a lovely flush. Her kohl-lined eyes rose to meet his own, two pools of longing and vulnerability and Virendra had to lean against his mahogany desk. One had clutched at its edge as he tried to wrestle the need to stain her skin with his lips raging in him.
"Toh bol manne thank you," he said, the words coming out as a challenge. Although he wasn't sure what he was challenging her to do.
He saw her eyes change, the caramel eyes reflecting the same defiance that had enslaved him from the first moment he had met them.
She moved half a step closer, until she was invading his space. Virendra held his breath as she raised her hand, a finger tracing the material of his vest. She might as well have branded him with a red hot iron. Her palm came to rest over his heart, which was at the moment beating fast enough to do a hummingbird proud. Using that hand for balance, she rose on her toes and brushed her lips against his.
"Thank you," she whispered against his mouth.
She moved her head back for a moment, one long moment in which he read naked want, mixed with the fear of rejection on her face.
He pulled her into his body, her curves moulding against him as his mouth took her with purpose. Their tongues met, exploring each other, memorizing each other's taste. His hands framed her lovely face, before dropping to her waist as he lifted her in his arms. Her own arms entwined around his shoulders, her mouth all the while moving against his, matching his urgency.
He flipped them and helped her on the desk without breaking their kiss. One hand tangled itself with her hair and he jerked his head back.
His mouth peppered her face with soft kisses, as he trailed a path down her neck.
She left out a soft moan as his mouth latched onto the place where her shoulder met her neck. He buried his groan in that spot.
"I want you in ways that I've never wanted anyone before," he confessed to her.
He straightened himself, his fingers loosening the grip on her hair, as his eyes raked her face. Her lips were swollen from his kisses, her eyes blown wide with desire. It was a look he decided he loved on her.
"I'm sensing a 'but' here."
"But," he said with a smile, "what I can offer you is too little than what you deserve. I care for you. I desire you. But I'm not sure I can love you the way…"
"That you loved Sakshi ji."
He nodded. "So what are we going to do?"
Her eyebrows drew together in a frown, her eyes darkening with a fear. "Mukhi ji, aap mujhe apne aap se dur toh nahi kar rahe?"
