If the human spirit resides on a "spiritual plane" and the body is as I have heard described "Just a shell" then why do peoples personalities change when they suffer brain injury or take mindaltering substances? Antidepressants for example can change a persons personality. The drug molecules are physical, real, they have mass and they interact with the mind of a person and can even change how people feel about and view themselves. Other substances can change perception to incredible degrees. Brain injuries can change people and their personalities too.

If the soul is not made of physical molecules how is it affected by them and other physical changes caused by injuries, drug molecules or damage from tumours?

To me this points to and strongly supports the idea that the self or the mind is generated purely by a physical device - the brain.

Has anybody else here thought about this?

good topic...

i think body is just a plane for soul...but it depends on body also a lot of things ....if body= is only improper then how will soul be able to react well..i mean body is the way or say mediator kind of thing.. for a body..

so if body suffers then how will soul get a proper means...

like"""" a pen cannnot write without a ink......"""

and whatever color the ink posses..the color of words writeen will be of that color only or say they will reflect that same color...

A human being is composed of 3 aspects :

1) Body
2) Mind
3) Soul/Spirit

All 3 are connected, but the only thing that remains constant is the soul and the soul is pure. And things like personality, character, intelligence, attitudes, perceptions, etc are all connected only with the mind/brain. The soul is independant of these traits of the human. So dont be confused with Soul/Spirit and Mind/Brain, both are different.
