Most top stars in Hollywood have some connection - either a former actor or writers, editors, producers, or another minor role in the film making process. A lot of the Italian filmmakers were particular about keeping the business within the close circles. The McCarthy era red scare and inquisitions also led to the entertainment industry becoming insulated against outsiders.
