No, I don't think Indraneel had sexual relation with Bulbul - his child bride..the norm in those days was the child bride slept with mother in law or other female family member till she reached the age of sexual awareness or few yrs after puberty say 15-16. From what I got from Indraneel's character..he was a sophisticated, educated, cultured man..even from the interactions it appeared that when Bulbul was nearing that age, he was trying to woo her, not force himself on her...this sudden interest in Bulbul made Binodini jealous and anxious..she was scared that she might lose whatever hold she had on Indraneel..hence she did all she could to brainwash Indraneel against Bulbul..Indraneel was angry on two counts a. That Bulbul's affair with Satya will bring bad name to the Thakur family b. That Bulbul was his wife and was cheating on him.

I don’t think they were in love as such

Bulbuls situation was that she was thrust into a new home at a super young age and Satya was the only one her age she could talk to without being scared.

Satya also saw her as someone they brought home and played along. Like a relative.

She was just heavily dependent on him emotionally since there was literally no one else in the house she could talk to/ be herself with and hence felt sad at the thought of him leaving / getting married.

He wasn’t as dependent so he didn’t quite fight for her or stop for her coz he saw her as bhabhi and that’s it.

I wouldn’t say either were in love or wanted romantic involvement from the other. He saw her as his relative. She saw him as her escape in a weird home where everyone is much older than her and alien to her.

Yea agree with majority view. Satya was never in love with Bulbul. She was his friend, his confidante..being a thakur he probably never got to interact with local kids, so Bulbul was the only friend he had..his feelings for Bulbul was platonic...while Bulbul loved him from an young age maybe cos in her head Satya was her husband.. initially she was shocked when she realised she was married to Indraneel and not Satya..but she could never come to terms with it.

Satya was Bulbul's first love, but Bulbul dint seem to be one for Satya - his interactions with her dint suggest that and he took her as a friend and probably he did like her a lot, but love I dont think so..he wasnt deeply emotionally invested in her as much as Bulbul was. He may have been jealous of Sudeep - but it seemed more on him being distrusting of Sudeep as a person and him wearing his detective hat on, thinking this man was the root of all problems and reason why his family fell apart and now his sister in law is also involved with him, as per him.

Also I think Indraneil and Bulbul had marital relationship..when she feigns going off to bed after he comes back home, I thought she was trying to avoid physical relationship with him for that night, because she was hurt that Satya had been sent away to London and that only fuelled Indraneil's anger and jealousy.

Also after 5 years, even though Sudeep and Bulbul shared a platonic friendship, if she ever had a choice, she would have opted for him as her life partner and vice versa, not Satya.

Did anyone get chills every time mahender got close to bulbul...? Even before the horrific scene (which I fast forward coz couldn’t watch), the scene at the start when she’s a kid, and then later on the swing made me so uncomfortable, creeped out and scared 😟

Thank you for this explanation. I get Binodini's taunting better. From calling Bulbul choti bahu at the picnic. Or while present jewelry to her she said something along the lines, "You should dress more lavishly or people will think I am the badi bahu not you."

The one thing I don't agree with was Indraneel being sophisticated or cultured. He clearly had relations with Binodini? Was that the norm in those days too? And the beating he was clearly influenced by patriarchal culture to some extent. I agree! I never got the notion that he would force her before that either. Nor did I think they had relations.

Sophistication and culture by those days standard...he did marry a child which was a norm back then..so if u look at it from today's moral standard he was a pedo...

I think about his relations with Binodini is a bit complex, remember Binodini saying 'if yr husband is not capable of giving u conjugal right someone else will do it.. meaning Indraneel probably took it as some sort of duty towards Binodini..since Mahendra was mentally unstable. About the beating I agree the concept of family honor alongwith infidelity brought the worst out of him.. he left the palace after the incident no? And never returned..maybe he was ashamed or maybe not.

Like in that scene where Satya and Bulbul were kids and he's telling her a story in dark and suddenly Paoli comes in the room at night and says her husband is calling for her and says she doesn't know why he doesn't call her instead. It gave a very creepy sign that he was with her sexually too but maybe not, dunno why that scene was put there like that so it was probably sexual. Although he could be calling her for something else too, but "Bulbul instead of Paoli Dam's character (who's a grown up)" and then Paoli's character sort of fixes Bulbul's looks by dressing her hair? That was like yikes it's implying something sexual. Also Bulbul being put on a marital bed like a wedding night was implied.

they implied the husband was a paedophile.. i mean there's no reason for him to marry a little 5 year old .. they kept alluding throughout Bulbbul's childhood scenes that the creepy asshole husband assaulted her...

she was violently raped that is why there was blood and not because of tearing of the hymen..
