Average actors have won Oscars so I wouldn't really put it on a pedestal. The top cluster of good actors in India are just as good as those in the West.

Make movie on slums.. west whites on judge panel will love it.

Depends on the movie. Many good actors in Hollywood don't get Oscars if their movie don't get hype. So, it also depends on the director who can make best of the talent. We have many critically acclaimed actor's, from old generation to new generation, they all can make it too. For example, Raj Kumar Rao was phenomenal in Shahid, Manoj Bajpayee ,Nawazuddin, even Irrfan if he was alive or Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra, is good too and many more.

Shahid Kapoor for Haider.❤️ While watching the movie I totally forgot that he was acting, he made his character alive and he was especially phenomenal in the those scenes where he was suffering and pretending to be mad. His best performance till date.
