Yes. One talaq is enough for ppl to be seperated if they passed the time of iddat (3 months) without reconcile. But this doesn't mean that they can't return to eachother . They can. All they need is to get married again to eachother .

Divorce can be given verbally or written.

the reconciliation time is 3 months but if in that time they dont patch up and iddat is complete then they cant get back together until halala
This ruling was issued because men used to divorce their wives over petty issues and then take them back whenever they felt like it. So this was done for womens rights and so men dont take such rash decisions they are given 3 months to think because after that theres no going back and halala is like a punishment for them because they can only have their wives back after she has been with someone else

This is true but Islam put a limit that after three talaq the man can't take the woman back or remarry her without halala. This doesn't apply to first or second talaq
