No dear, S2 is a completely new story with a new cast, with only Maya being the staple here.

S1 was about obsessive love, while S2 is about obsessive hate. S1 Maya was all white, and S2 Maya is all black. That is it.

Hope you enjoy watching the show.

In season 1 Maya Mehrotra had a troubled childhood with an abusive father. That's why she was kind of a psycho/sociopath. When she fell in love, she became an obsessed lover.

In this Maya Jaisingh looks more of a revengeful woman. So I think both will be a little different.

To answer your question, both the seasons are different with different characters.

She was a sociopath in season 1. People get confused with sociopathy and psychopathy and it's differences hence often use them interchangeably, but key things need to be remembered to understand the two personality disorders and that although both may share many traits, there are differences that can help distinguish between them that my aunty who is a university lecturer in psychology explained to me:

1. Psychopaths are born, and sociopaths are made (hence why the latter is called socio, as certain events in their childhood affect their mind-map that turn them into sociopaths, think kai from vampire diaries and the way he was treated by his own family and coven as an abomination since childhood due to being a siphoner, only to grow into a murderous sociopath). Psychopaths are born (i.e, genetic).

2. the traits of psychopathy are a person's nature given a psychopath is born into that very nature, and for that very reason psychopaths are considered more dangerous, and majority of them are in the criminal justice symptom already whereas a sociopath can be anybody and don't necessarily end up being killers or harming people but do still have a tendency to get on the bad side of the law or clashing with authority figures due to their problematic traits. A sociopath is not always a killer but can be a regular doctor, a lawyer, a businessman, a police officer, a salesperson etc, as sociopaths are often attracted to certain professions that offer them opportunities to use and grow their sociopathic traits, especially as the above careers tend to be very ambitious careers that offer power and influence in some way.

3. Sociopaths are still capable of feeling some level of guilt if they harm someone who is close and dear to them but not necessarily care of hurting others, meaning sociopaths can still hold emotional attachments to a certain extent and can still possibly maintain relationships, but this cannot be said of their far more dangerous counterparts who are born into the traits they display.

If we look at maya in season 1, her traumatic childhood due to her father' treatment of her and her mother is a for sure way for a child to grow into having a serious personality disorder, hence maya from season 1 would be classed as a sociopath, especially given she felt and showed love for her mother, for arjun and desired to become a bahu accepted by her mother-in-law initially after marriage but she later decided that didn't matter to her anymore and it was only arjun she desired all to herself. She didn't really show any real psychopathic traits at all. In fact I have yet to see ITV show a true psychopath, and these weird ITV vamps that go around trying to kill and make the female lead's life miserable for the male lead are not psychopaths by any means but I bet the writers would think they are. Psychopaths have very different and inexplicable motives than the typical motives these itv writers give for vamps.

I agree with you that psychopaths are born and sociopaths made by environment but it doesn't end there. A psychopath is cold hearted and a sociopath is hot headed. A psychopath is very intelligent and can be very manipulative. S/he can hide things with a poker face and no one would know. A psychopath can appear like nothing happened the next moment after killing a person. A sociopath has difficulties to hide his/her emotions. S/he would be agitated after committing something wrong. So I think in the end anyone can become a psychopath. Also it's easier to feel for a sociopath because you know why s/he has become like this. But you can't feel for a psychopath. That is the reason why people can't differentiate between the two. Maya had many traits. At first we knew why she did this and that but later the character got butchered and we couldn't feel much for her.

I really liked what you have said. Indian TV hardly manages to show a truly psychopathic character onscreen.

By the way, did you watch Ek deewana Tha? In that show Vikram's character Vyom had no love or affection for anyone, be it his parents or probably himself too, all he did and wanted to do is obsess over the female lead and win her at any cost.

So after reading your post, it reminded me of Vyom, he could be the only character who is close to be a psychopath.. Vikram was terrific in the show, otherwise the show was a dull one with poor actors as other leads.

I am sure you got your answers already. Season 2 is completely new with the underlying core being the same. However, I do suggest you give Season 1 a shot coz it was awesome too! It had its ups and downs but it was refreshing at that point.

I think you'll have some reverse enjoyment trying S1 now. 😆
