Such a stupid generalization. There are different types of cinema in different decades and also diff industries. In Telugu 50s and 60s are really great with many mythology and well made family movies which look still quality. Then there are Bapu, K Viswanath. There are sci fi tamil films made by the likes of Shankar and art films made by Maniratnam, GVM, Balachander. In malayalam, there are many many good films.

Going to talk about Malayalam industry as I am Malayali and know it better than I know other Southern industries. If you look at even our older films you can see that the misogyny present in most Hindi older movies was less frequently present in Malayali film industry. We had started making historicals such as Kumara Sambhavam, Vaishali and Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha when SLB had not even conceived all the historical movies Bollywood people praise to the stars now. When Bollywood was making films like KKGG and KKHH we were making Manichithrathazhu and Amaram where male characters had weaknesses and female characters were bold and had agency. Tbh, I don't think Bollywood even has the maturity to make a film like Trivandrum Lodge or even Devasuram.

Not saying that Mollywood does not have trashy movies. We do. And Bollywood has gems we don't have either. I know you made this statement to provoke and clearly I have been but in the future, please try to be more aware of what you don't know when you make ignorant generalisations.
