Harinder said, “Had it been in my control or I been a part of the filmmaking process of Raazi, I would have given it (Alia’s return) a different colour. I would have made her salute the tricolor and make her feel proud of what she did for the nation. I have addressed students across the country and one question that almost everybody asks me is that why did Sehmat (Alia’s character in the film) return feeling sad and depressed? I must tell you that in real life, Sehmat did not come back depressed. She came back normal. Indeed, she felt guilty because she was responsible for the death of a few people. But as Sehmat used to always say, “Agar aap apne maa ke nahi, to koi ke nahi. Agar aap apne desh ke nahi, to koi ke nahi.” This statement, in my opinion, should have been incorporated into the film. I would have made Alia kneel in front of the tricolour as Jana Gana Mana is being played in the background in the film. Then, I would have shown her saluting our national flag. This is where you show a replica of Jhansi Ki Rani because Sehmat was no less than that. However, there are somethings which are not in your control. Having said that, I must say that Alia did a great job in playing the character of Sehmat. She radiated honesty.”

This guy has said many contradictory things in past.

He once said sehmat passed away before watching the movie

Then she said sehmat came on the sets secretly and was happy with the movie.

Personally I think this guy is making up a lot of things. Pakistani army is not allowed to marry ANY foreigner, let alone an Indian that too in times of war.

And that bit about him wanting sehmat to kneel in front of tricolor with a shadow of Jhansi ki raani and her having little to no feelings... obviously this guy doesn't have any touch with reality of soldiers. They come back with post traumatic stress disorder, depression, guilt and what not... human emotions are not black and white and can't be turned on and off with a switch. It changes one forever when you kill someone. Even if it's in a war or not.

That said, if the real Sehmat has passed away, why isn't he revealing her pictures?

Was the son also in army? And was he active on duty when he got married... I know plenty of people in pak army and that's the rule...

Taking a life is not easy and Sehmat killed those who were innocent and also those who were enemy according to which side you belong to. So yes she would come depressed because she is a human, not a cold blooded killer who would not feel any emotion.

Enemy or not a solider who kills is still killing fellow human being, so that is why so many of then either commit suicide or live with PTSD.

because she was a human at the end of the day?

and it is concepts like these "watan ke aagay kuch nae" which in a way have always been problematic..problematic coz statements like these have actually somewhere killed a human inside us..where we have even gone to the extent of killing other humans to protect our country..

alas if only us humans could be humans above religion or country..so many innocent lives would be alive today

sehmat was an agent and she did her job..but the human inside her could not connect to the agent she was..and that is exactly why instead of being happy of achieveing what she went for..she was deeply upset that due to whatever reasons..she did end up killing several lives..if we seperate the human inside us from the boundaries of religion and country..we would all feel the same taking any life due to whatever reasons

i could so feel in her last speech when her husband also dies..that she does not understand this world..she does not want to belong here..the world we have created for us..where for a land..lives are taken..killed..destroyed..we all have to die one day leaving behind the same land..is it really all worth it? is anything really more worth it than a human life actually? these thoughts will haunt us all..if we only see ourselves as humans and only humans free of any religion or country
