If everything had to be considered then RS should have brought actors who are flexible or not very experienced. Too late now.

StarPlus and Hotstar are different. Only common link is Star. The revenue from TV is humongous compared to that form Hotstar simply because more people watch TV than Hotstar.

The only reason why Hotstar releases Star network shows at 6 am is to sell their Hotstar VIP package. People in India like to watch for free. They needed some push to make them pay. That is why they made this arrangement. If they had sold VIP with only IPL, many wouldn’t have bought it.

Anyway as I said, Hotstar doesn’t affect TRP much. So why would they worry?!

It's not about worrying, they think future will be OTT platform so they are investing in it. Business invests as per future forecast/ trends. Even EK is investing in ALT.

I do agree that OTT is the future and that is why we are seeing OTT platforms like Hotstar, Prime Video, Netflix, Voot and ALT Balaji rise and rise. But there is a long way to go. I don’t see OTT overtaking TV viewership anywhere in the near future. At least 15-20 years especially in a country like India. First goal should be to make 100% internet penetration and that provide high speed stable connections. These things are not easy to achieve. So for a long time from now, TV will always have the upper hand as against OTT atleast in India.

Yep.. Every business needs to be future proof and they make business strategies accordingly. Considering smart phones boom in India and upcoming generation trends, they make decisions.

Well, I read interview head of SP India back, don't remember his name now. He spoke about letting go KBC, ending BT serials, investing and developing HOTSTAR, their commitment on developing and investing other sports like KABADI apart from cricket etc. It was good insight though.

After reading all the responses, what we can infer is

Online ratings are hoax

Storylines with octane family drama, murder, thrillers, paranormal activity, spirits, reptiles, insects , members of terrestrial , aquatic animal kingdom, half mortal and human characters , historical and mythological plots which have multiple marriages, leaps thrown in between with lots of twists and turns work.

Basic plots fall flat. YRHPK , where does it stand ?

There is dire need to create chemistry between leads especially off screen to generate interest. Even onscreen chem is v imp.

Trps are end games. As per Gul khan iv a minimum of 1.6 is required for stability.

Reality shows, cricket, ipl, overdose of fiction cum non fictional content or in simple language a show should withstand competition from all areas.

If all of the above are met then it is survival of the fittest, otherwise no.

I would rather have show with minimal offscreen and onscreen drama and last for a limited period of time. And only time will tell if the show will be able to withstand all the competition or not. Repeating the same line again and again wont change anything.

I agree with Anuka that I do not want any off screen chemistry. Forced chemistry is a complete put off for me.

Besides I will be VERY happy if the show is finite bcos a story retains its freshness only if it has a tight knit storyline and a defined graph with a clear end. Shaheer is usually against infinited shows too so I hope that this show will have a nice proper finish when the story is at its logical end.

Let me also add another thing here, StarPLus is using YRHPK to promote a new show.' Hostages'. If this show had such miserable reach/ was doing so bad, I think SP wud not choose this one to promote new shows. Makes no bizsense to do that.

YES, TV reach is more but the target audience for THIS show is not the typical TV audience at all, I believe. They are targeting a younger audience here, which is online, not in front of the TV set.

And also TV reach is more, yes indeed but that whopping audience viewership preference is NOT known since the TRP system is NOT beyond manipulation and this is the BARC's view, not mine.

So my take wud be that Hotstar does not release its TRPs, yes, agreed so WE don;t know but if SP is using YRHPK as a launch pad for a new show, it shows the show has impressive reah online based on data that SP is privy to. I am happy with that for now.

I am oblivious about to what capacity is Hostages is incorporated in YRHPK : whether it is incorporated in the storyline or is it just a promo. But I guess StarPlus already has promos featuring actors from YRKKH, YHM and Kullfi to promote Hostages. Actually having watched StarPlus for the last 5.5 years, I know that it is very common to do such promotions. When Rishton Ka Chakravyuh launched, there was one stupid scene in YHM where Ishita mistakenly calls the FL of the new show and they talk about motherhood. The funny part is that Ishita dials a wrong number twice in two different episodes and both the types magically that same FL is on the other side talking. 😂🤣
