😆 ..Babita has a doll-like quality.. not that it's a good quality :p

Look forward to your thread on conversational songs, I already have a few on my mind! 😳

I'm going to open one today, LB! ..I may be a little slow like always, but you guys post, share, have fun :)

I haven't watched Dil diya dard liya, but I recall watching Aarzoo and it was misery. Wuthering Heights is not my fav, so wasn't keen on watching it adapted on screen anyway. But the songs in both movies are awesome.

And "Saawan aaye" is beautiful, isn't it? It's the raag that does it. That's why Naushad scores, since most of his songs are based on classical raags. Listen to Rangapuravihara that's in the same raga - Brindavani sarang.

It's one of the most beautiful songs ever LB.. my verbal expression is very poor to explain how beautiful it is.. even the video.. Listened to the two songs again.. Rangapura Vihara is also beautiful 😃

pjyo, thanks for posting"tum jo mil gaye ho". This song has crazy variations, it's a crazy composition and among Madan Mohan's and Rafi's best, IMO.

Here's another Manoj Kumar song -

I wonder how no one has posted this song yet? 😃

Here's one I had heard often but I had no idea who it was picturized on. Imagine my surprise on finding it's Shotgun and his real life wifey, Poonam Sinha, in probably her only screen appearance.

Although the video's a little fuzzy, I like his wife.. 😃 ..great songs as usual LB. Loved Barkha Rani zara jamke...

The songs are steeped in social satire and one of them - Chino Arab hamara- came in for a lot of controversy at the time for it's twist on the national song "Saare jahan se accha".

Oh, wow, never knew there was an Indian film adaptation of Crime and Punishment.. makes me curious about the film, how it is set in Indian society..

Is this the song when Raskolnikov confesses to Sonya??

Listened to Chin O Aarab Hamara... the lyrics are truthful

@pjyo, I know what you mean about Utpal Dutt and Dina Pathak. They are character actors who used to rise above the script and infuse a special something into their roles that make them unforgettable. Another example is Om Prakash. Part of why I love Hrishida's movies is he used to repeat these character actors in all his movies. Asrani was another fixture. I just love the chemistry all the actors shared on movies like Chupke Chupke, Golmaal and Khoobsoorat. Makes the movie seem like slice of life happening on screen,

@Angel: Shotgun and Poonam seem to share an easy camaraderie on screen na?
SD Burnam's voice is so unique. It does seem raw and a bit unrefined, but that adds to the uniqueness. It has an old world charm - kinda like if you listen to KL Saigal, Pankaj Mullick and even Ashok Kumar in the days he used to sing on screen.

Shantaram is not among my favorites, and I used to avoid his movies especially since he insisted on casting Sandhya 🤢 in every single one of them. But "Do aankhein barah haath" is a great story. It's about a jail warden who decides to serve his own personal brand of justice to a 6 hardened prisoners by undertaking to redeem through hard work and toil. The social and moral message the movie delivers is praiseworthy. Worth watching. And the music is great too - Ae Malik tere bande hum bring tears, and Saiyyan jhooton ka bada sartaj nikla is really fun.

I think I did watch Phir Subah Hogi a long time ago. I'm not entirely sure of the context of the song, but I guess it must be during his confession.

Still awaiting your thread on conversational songs 😃

And a couple of Tamil songs, by the inimitable Ilaya Raja - featuring one of my favorite actresses, Revathy. The movies - Mouna Raagam and Punnagai Mannan - are among my favorites too! Incidentally, ARR played the keyboard on Vaan megham, he used to be a guitarist with Ilaya Raja's troupe then.
