In mughals cocubbine is like wife only. Its next position after wife.

Cocubbine is just a bit lower in class or status than a royal wife. They can include a defeated kingdoms princess or defeated kings wives etc. And they are dedicated only to the king or prince etc completely all life. If their emperor or king gets defeated than the new emperor can take them in his harem. Like after Dara Sukoh was killed by aurangzeb, he took some of his elder brothers cocubbines into his harem to humilaite him. Some refused and were jailed. Cocubbine is not so big status as wife thats all otherwise she is wife. She can have her husbands children.

Cocubbine is dedicated to the one man (or you can say husband) only all life usually. They cannot change partners etc Its like unofficial wife. In modern terms its like second wife of a man, legally there is a first wife but than a man takes second or third wife whose not legal as per law but still she is his wife only.

Several men use Rakassa for pleasure so cannot be a cocubbine or wife of one man

Also Cocubbine will never dance in party or in front of other men, they are like wife so stay in ghunghat/parda only

And cocubbine will usually be treated with respect by the emperor/king kids. So Akbar dies does not mean all of Akbars cocubbines will be treated badly etc. They are like widows of Akbar only but status low. Akbars many children are from cocubbines only. So cocubbine is like wife only but husband cannot give her wife title because of her low status or because of society reasons etc. Akbar wanted wife status for majority of his cocubbines but religious rejected it saying only 4 can be real wives. Yet he had more than 100 wives all from royal families and mughal aristrocacy. He had 30 chief wives of which Ruqaiah, salima, Jodha, Rukmavathi, Nathi bai etc were some. He had another 100 wives who were also from smaller kingdoms and lesser status aristocracy. Above that he had many cocubbines.

Hope you understood, they may be chief wife, secondary wife or cocubbine but they are wife only

So no anarkali cannot be a cocubbine also to Salim because society shall not accept/approve

Pls read mughal women or mughal harem books

True, ekta's JA was very accurate in terms of relations, that's what naatkiye rupantra should be like. The story may be fictional but the characters and relations intact.
Mughal history is so well known and they make such a joke by showing a very young Salima, maan singh as Jodha's brother, its creepy.

@bold,exactly.LM and DP knew each other for a long time which made their longing after their separation logical.
However these two barely know each other and its so weird to see them behaving as if they were BFFs since eternity😕
The kids needed to behave like kids.Their mature scenes were annoying af

And from whatever I know, didn't Salim had a pretty comfortable childhood? Infact he was so pampered that he took to bad habits like opium. And its not that he didn't have any friends in childhood so that Anarkali was his only friend😕

Also Anarkali is supposed to be a kaneez and yet behaves like the family friend's kid who can enter any portion of the palace🤪

He did not take opium in childhood

Thats what mughal e azam and serials like JA, DEM show

But thats imaginary story

Pls read jehangirnama and other mughal books

Salim first drank wine when he was 18-19 years old when he got lost in desert during war in enemy territory. He was verry thirsty and hungry so his friend had got wine with him and he drank to quench thirst

He had opium in his 30s first because doc said if you drink wine you will die in few mths, so to reduce drinking wine he ate opium to offaset withdrawal symptoms

He had a pampered childhood till age of 8-9 years with family and parents than he was sent to war field to become a warrior

Till a period, JA was far better, logical, loosely based on true event with bit of natkiya rupantar..

I found this in wikipedia for Anarkali --
According to the puranas Anarkali was a male dancer who was a gay and fell in love with the prince jahangir . This was the main historical reason why they were not allowed to meet and marry each other .It was first mentioned by an English tourist and trader William Finch in his journal, who visited Mughal Empire on 24 August 1608.[2][3] The story was originally written by Indian writer Abdul Halim Sharar and on the first page of that book he had clearly mentioned it to be a work of fiction. Nevertheless, his story has been adapted into literature, art and cinema.[citation needed] 😆 😆 😛

Shaavi there is so many different version of stories about mughal era in different sites..I have studied till my 10th std about their rulling, principles, battles, their economic system, period of rulling etc..but not abt their personal life even in akbar nama there is no mention abt jodha bhai and also it states that mother of salim was a perisian..even one of the professor mentioned jodha bhai was not akbar wife she was jahangir wife..so waht i want to say is there is no proper evidence..anyway makers r already cleared its fiction that too anarkali story is fiction

I found this in wikipedia to know about jodha

There is a popular perception that the wife of Akbar, mother of Jahangir, was also known as "Jodha Bai".[12]

Her name as in Mughal chronicles was Mariam-uz-Zamani. Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri, the autobiography of Jahangir, doesn't mention Jodha Bai, Harkha Bai or Heer Kunwari.[12]Therein, she is referred to as Mariam-uz-Zamani. Neither the Akbarnama (a biography of Akbar commissioned by Akbar himself), nor any historical text from the period refer to her as Jodha Bai.[13]

Salim's mother was referred to as a royal concubine of Akbar in the book "The Empire of the great MongolBy J.S.Holland. It is a Latin book written by Joannes De laet a Geographer in the year 1631 during Shahjahan's reign. Historian Vincent has an opinion that Delaet has copied it from certain reliable Persian chronicle, but certain historian doubt the authenticity of the book.

According to Professor Shirin Moosvi, a historian of Aligarh Muslim University, the name "Jodha Bai" was first used to refer to Akbar's wife in the 18th and 19th centuries in historical writings.[13] According to the historian Imtiaz Ahmad, the director of the Khuda Baksh Oriental Public Library in Patna, it was Lieutenant-Colonel James Tod who first mentioned Jodhabai in his book Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan.[14]

"In the Akbarnama, there is a mention of Akbar marrying a Rajput princess of Amer but her name is not Jodhaa," says historian and director of the Khuda Baksh Oriental Public Library, Imtiaz Ahmad in Patna. She is referred to as Mariam Zamani (Mary of the Age). This is a title and not a name. It further says that Mariam Zamani is a title referred to the lady who gave birth to Prince Salim, who became Emperor Jehangir. But the name Jodha is not mentioned anywhere.[14]

Professor N R Farooqi, a historian of Allahabad Central University, states that Jodha Bai was not the name of Akbar's queen instead it was the name of Jahangir's wife Taj Bibi Bilqis Makani the Princess of Jodhpur, whose real name was Jagat Gosain.[12][14][15][16][17] of Amer (modern day Jaipur). She was the granddaughter of Raja Prithvi Singh of Amer. Rajkumari Heer Kunwari was also the sister of Raja Bhagwan Das of Amer, and the aunt of Raja Man Singh I of Amer.

jodha bai is not her real name, according to amer historical documents, she mentioned as heer kuwar/ harka bai.. In 18th century European scholars use the name Jodha for the frst tym.. later film and shows makes the name Popular for Akbar 3rd chief consort.. She is now more popular in dis name.. so let it be..
Jahangir wife and khurram mother Jagat gosein, princess of Jodhpur was knows as Jodhbai,, who was often misunderstood by Jodhabai...

I've left the show within a week. I couldn't take the historical inaccuracies. I get that Salim and Anarkali's love may have been fiction, but at least everything around it could have been real! I was hoping to learn some history, but this show is ruining the history that I know.
