Drabble: Thread of Sanity

Darkness - She was scared of it as much as she was used to it. Though she was made used to it, she could not shed her fear. Now, that hardly matters - she was slowly drowning in darkness.

She sat on the floor behind the couch in their room, her knees hugged to her chest, the file given by Roop lying beside her on the floor. She did not know what exactly she was feeling. Only two things was running in her mind - the family rejoicing the wedding and Shivaay's words vaado karo tum mera intezaar karogi. Jab tak main wapas nahin aa jaata na, koi kuch bhi kahe, tum kisi ki baat pe yakeen nahin karogi jab tak woh baat main tumse na keh doon. Kisi bhi nateeje pe pahunch ne se pehle, tum meri baat pehle sunogi. Annika, vaada karo, vaada karo you'll wait for me.

She was hanging onto Shivaay's words for sanity - Main wapas aaoonga, zaroor aaoonga...

Another question was eating her inside - Will the family, she considers hers, sacrifice her or relation with her, if time demands, to save themselves?

Her sobs and tears did not stop as the events replayed repeatedly in her mind as if they were happening in real. She was slowly losing herself to the games of mind and eyes.

Somewhere, still a voice was calling out, Shivaay, kahaan hai aap? Aur intezaar nahin hota...

Omkara was nursing his wound as he kept a watchful eye on the boiling tea on the stove. This was how Shivaay found Om in the kitchen. Shivaay was in fact retiring to his room after a long day. In fact, nowadays, days were indeed so long that sometimes he wondered when the day would be over! He could never feel a complete day; in other words, he could never feel a day completely complete! He was in a mess- he knew that, but couldn't ponder over it much and he completely ignored it! All he was doing was getting caught in the mess, instead of clearing and coming out the mess. This was unlike Shivaay Singh Oberoi! This was not him at all. He was not able to become the same Shivaay Singh Oberoi back, after starting to live as her' Shivaay! He jerked out of his thoughts. No, he will not go into it again, he told himself and turned his attention to Om in the kitchen.

"Om! Shivaay called out to his brother as he walked into the kitchen. "Kya kar raha hai?

"Chai bana raha hoon. Piyega? Om asked.

"No. Shivaay refused immediately. On a second thought, he said, "Teek hai. Tujhe company bhi de doonga. Main madad karta hoon. Tumhara haath--

"It's ok, Shivaay. Main karta hoon. Om said with a smile. "I'm fine. he added to assure him, moving his hand.

"Yeah!! Shivaay nodded.

Om eyed Shivaay through his eyes and asked, "Ab tera zakhm kaisa hai?

Shivaay said, "Better. I'm fine.

"Waise tumne ye nahin bataya ki yeh zakhm kaise hua?

"Just a small accident. Shivaay sighed.

Om raise his brows. "Accident? Really Shivaay? he asked unbelievingly.

Shivaay just looked away. Om shook his head. He spoke, "Shivaay, ab toh bhaagna chod do. Annika bhabhi ka bhi pata chal gaya?!

Shivaay's head turned sharply hearing Annika' to look at Om. He just said plainly, "Mujhe uske baare mein koi baat nahin karni. Besides, uske hone ya na hone se mujhe koi fark nahin padta. Woh yahaan hai, ya kahin aur hai, doesn't make any difference to me at all.

Om raised both his hands in front of him gesturing I surrender' and ended the conversation. Om filtered the tea in two cups and placed them on the tray. He then took and kept the already prepared chocolate milk shake along with the tea in the tray. "Chalo, ho gaya!

Shivaay frowned at the chocolate milk shake placed in the tray and asked, "Yeh?

"Poolside chalein? Rudra wait kar raha hai. Om answered.

Shivaay, though was impressed and excited, did not show on his face. He just said,Ok!

Poolside:

Rudra was staring at his reflection in the pool, sitting by the poolside, his feet placed inside the water. What a mess his life was!' his mind sighed. His mind could not jerk off the events of the evening. His thoughts came to halt with Om's voice.

"Ye le, tera chocolate milk shake. Om said as he offered the tray.

Rudra gave his trademark puppy smile as he picked his glass. Om sat beside him, as he placed the tray down. Rudra had just sipped his milk shake, when he saw two cups of tea on the tray. "O, aap kabse do chai peene lage? he asked.

Om looked at Rudra as if Have you gone mad?' look. "Pagal hai kya?

Rudra pointed to the two cups of tea and raised his eyebrows in question.

"Hi, guys! Shivaay joined him as he placed his phone into his pocket.

"Bhaiya, aap?! Rudra asked surprised.

Shivaay was confused. "Haan main. Kyun?

"Kuch nahin. Rudra shook his head. "Bahut din ho gaye na, aise aap humare saath raat mein company deke.

Shivaay just shrugged.

"Shivaay tumhara chai. Om offered his tea.

"Thanks. Shivaay took his cup.

"You are welcome. Om smiled.

The three of them sipped from their cups respectively in silence. Silence was new when Obros were seated together.

Rudra broke the silence. "Kitna ajeeb lag raha hai na? Om and Shivaay looked at him. "Hum teenon saath baite hai lekin chup hai. Aur aise chup baite hai ki koi baat hi nahin karne ko.

Om sipped his tea, then spoke. "Yeh khamoshi isliye nahin hai ki kuch baat nahin hai karne ke liye. Lekin isliye kyunki itni saari baatein hai, lekin pata nahin kahaan shuru karein.

Rudra shook his head, while Shivaay smirked and sipped his tea.

"Humari life kitni complicated ho gayi na? Kya socha tha aur kya ho raha hai. Rudra said. "Kabhi socha nahin ki itna complicated ho jaayega ki hum hi badal jaayenge.

Shivaay let out a dry laugh. "Humare badal jaane se haalat badalega toh nahin. Toh itni fikar karne se koi fayda nahin. Isliye achcha hoga agar hum khudse zyada kisi aur pe bharosa na karein.

"Iska yeh matlab toh nahin ki hum jeena hi chod dein? Om questioned. Shivaay stiffened and looked away. Rudra and Om gauged Shivaay for his reaction.

Shivaay murmured softly a moment later, "Agar jeena chod bhi dein toh kisi ko koi farq nahin padta.

Om and Rudra looked at each other. "Humein farq padta hai, bhaiya Rudra said.

Om, after a small gap, uttered clearly, "Aur Annika Bhabhi ko bhi!

Shivaay got up immediately.

"Shivaay Om stopped him. "Tumhein Bhabhi se shikayat kya hai? he asked.

"Shikayat? Shivaay gave a dry laugh. "Really Om! Isn't it a small word to define?

Now the topic is open, Om was free to probe it. "Toh, Bhabhi ke liye kya hai, tumhare dil mein?

Shivaay took a deep breath. "Kuch nahin.

"Kuch nahin? Jaise ki woh hi kuch nahin?

"Haan... kuch nahin lagti woh. In fact, lagta hai ki uske liye main kuch nahin lagta. Isliye, mera wait nahin ki usne. The pain was reflecting in his face. "Jo dekha, use sach samaj li... Jaise humare beech kuch tha hi nahin...

Rudra barely controlled his tears.

"Aur toh aur, usne police ko bhi.. Woh.. woh fake evidences de di. Kyun ki usne aisa? Kyun?? Shivaay closed his eyes to control his tears from flowing down his cheeks.

Omkara took a moment to react, because it was about Annika. He is aware that Annika affects Shivaay in the best as well as worst way.

"Shivaay, tande dimaag se socho, do you really think, Annika bhabhi se woh evidences Police ko di hogi?

"Haan, usne hi di. CCTV camera ke footage dekha maine. Shivaay had controlled himself to normal.

"I don't think so. Om said.

"Maine dekha Om.

"Jaise Annika bhabhi ne tumhari shaadi dekhi thi? Om asked.

"Please Om. I don't want to talk about this anymore. Waise bhi, that doesn't make difference at all. It doesnt change the fact ki, humare papa jail gaye the.

"Yes, it doesn't. All I want to say is, Annika bhabhi kabhi humein dhoka nahin de sakti. Om said firmly. "Waise bhi, humare bade doodh ke dule nahin hai. Shayad unhone Kalyani Mill mein aag nahin lagayi, lekin galtiyaan bahut saare ki hai. You can't deny, Shivaay.

Shivaay took a deep breath. "Hum is baare mein waise baat kyun kar rahe hai?

"Isliye ki ek misunderstanding ki saya poori zindagi par nahin padni chahiye. Main woh galti kar chuka hoon, isliye us galti ki keemat bhi jaanta hoon. Tumhein bhi pata hai. Please don't repeat it.

"Isse koi faayda nahin. Bharosa hi nahin raha humare beech. Shivaay said softly.

"Lekin pyar humesha rahega, Shivaay. Om explained him.

Shivaay went silent.

"Bhaiya, hum aapko aise nahin dekh sakte. Rudra spoke.

"I am fine Rudra.

"Dikh raha hai, humein. Aur ye bhi dekha ki Annika bhabhi kaisi hai. Aap donon maan kyun nahin lete ki aap ek doosre ke bina nahin reh sakte? Aisi kya ego hai?

"I am fine Rudra.

"Pichle baar bhi jab Bhabhi ne aapko chodne ka faisla liye, humne samjhaya ki aapko saari sach bata de. Unhone suni nahin. Aur ab aap. Rudra pointed his fingers at Shivaay. "Bhabhi ko saari sach batao, bhaiya. Woh samaj jaayegi.

"Nahin Rudra. Use bahut takleef hogi.

"Hum hain na, unhein sambhalne ke liye.

Shivaay did not reply anything.

Om and Rudra shook their heads in defeat.

"Mujhe toh lagta hai, sab jhooth hai. Rudra said with disinterest.

"Kya jhoot? Om asked.

"Woh jo bua keh rahi hai, woh sab. Rudra said carefree.

"Kya bol raha hai, tu? Om asked. Shivaay too looked at him with interest.

"Dekho, pichle baar, Choti maa ne Annika bhabhi se jhoot bola tha, tum donon ko alag karne ke liye. Is baar bhi, pakka bua jhoot hi bol rahi hai, aap donon ko alag karne ke liye. Rudra used his logic. "Warna koi bhi sach se aap donon peeche nahin hat-the. Sirf jhoot se aap donon cheat ho jaate ho. Rudra shrugged his shoulders.

Om rolled his eyes. Shivaay raised his hand in disbelief.

"Ho gaya na, serious mood ab light. Rudra lifted his collar.

Om hit his cheek. "Duffer. Kab bada hoga tu?

"Aap bhi mujhe serious kahaan lete ho?

All the three smiled.

"On a serious note, Shivaay. Om continued. "Humare badon ko bachate-bachate, apni life kho mat dena. Aur bhabhi ko bhi.

"Lekin ye sab maine uske liye kiya tha. Shivaay pointed out.

"Lekin use nahin pata na. Kya pata, unhein laga hoga ki humesha ki tarah tum humare parivaar ko bacha rahe the? Who knows, woh kya soch rahi hai. Om countered.

"Woh kya sochti hai, mujhe usse koi farak nahin padta.

"Teri zindagi mein toh pad raha hai. Om pointed at Shivaay. "Hum dekh sakte hai. Rudra nodded his head. Om continued, "Kabhi toh apne baare mein socha karo, Shivaay.. Please think about it.

Shivaay neither shook his head nor nodded. He had althrough his life, placed his family before himself. Annika too happened when he placed his family before himself. Annika is equally important to him as his family is. Does she even realise her importance in his life? He had told several times that he cannot survive without her. Does she even understand the depth of his words? Annika... His heart called her again... even without any reason... but critical for his survival.
