WARNING: ANGST AHEAD
She missed him.
There, she admitted it to herself. The repeated convincing to herself that she did not miss him because she could still meet him in Paurav Rashtra conviniently was eating her up.
She couldn't lie to herself anymore.
Anyways, it seemed that everyone around her has noticed it. The longing. The despair. The missing. Her mother could see it in her eyes. Others could notice it in her trembling voice. But only she could feel it in her shattering soul. It was affecting her. In ways more deeply than she thought of.
But why was she missing him?
It isn't as if he is angry and locked himself away from her. God knows that 'that' was worse. She remembers when he was upset that she did not accompany him for his fishing adventure, simply because she "promised" her mother to help in the household work. What followed was a whole three days of stern eyes, ignoring and turning-the-face-away by Puru as her punishment before they finally started talking their usual way.
The worst three days of her life.
She couldn't understand why her heart sank into her stomach even though she was delighted when Sajjan Kaka revealed his and Puru's true identity. Now she knew why.
Because sooner or later, she knew Puru would be away from her. He would no longer remain a Dasyu, he would be a prince. Of the rival state. That only made things more difficult. She knew that very moment that she will miss him. She will miss his childish talks and firm actions. She will miss his unshakable determination and his sensitive heart. She will miss sitting beside him, gazing at the moon with that comfortable silence between them. She will miss feeding him. She will miss laughing with him and at him. She will miss throwing light punches on his abdomen. She will miss his challenges. She will miss herself as much as she will miss him. Because the level of comfort she shared with him is never shared with anyone else.
She knew it all along.
And yet, the pain brought along relief. Because she knew Puru was too kind-hearted to be a Dasyu. Her mother was ruthless when it came to looting and killing. It had become a sadistic pleasure, a way to handle herself for her. She was fighting her own pains. But he only looked upto it as a necessity. It was needed to be done. He had no other option. His aim was to harm as less people and squeeze as much food and wealth as possible. Given any other respectable choice, he wouldn't do this.
And that's why fate and destiny decided to make him a prince, she concluded. He could fight righteous battles and do so without any guilt or regrets. He would also live a lavish life at the palace, but he rightly deserves so. He now has the power to make strong decisions. Life looks all good to him now. It all makes sense.
And with that, a weight lifts off her chest. The realization that he is finally getting what he is very much a contender for, makes her smile.
She is in pain, indeed. But it matters less as long as he is happy.
