I think Prithvi took the right decision in freeing Tailap, he is extending a hand of friendship and making the first move. This way he tries to end the feud, which is the right thing to do in my opinion. The episode was really magnificent, really amazed by how well made it was.

It is foolish but people like PV who live in their lala land think friendship is possible. Is he aware of what his father did to her parents ? If no then I guess he doesn't know how strong is Mrinal's hatred for him, his family and his land.

There are multiple cases of kings letting go of their enemies when they had a chance. Most famous or tragic of them being prithviraj chauhan and most recent being india commiting diplomatic hara kiri after victory in inda pak 1971 war. As they say a poisonous snake is not going to become non poisionous. Similarly hurting your enemy and letting go is giving invitation to them for ruining you.
Anything is fair in love and war. Crushing your enemy by any or all means is part of basic war strategy be it chankya neeti or art of war.
