In match 16 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosts Sri Lanka will take on Oman at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele today. Sri Lanka, after their win over Ireland, will look to take one step closer to Super 8 qualification against Oman, who will be searching for their first win of the edition.

Sri Lanka head into the clash against Oman with a mixed squad situation after suffering a massive injury blow. Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the remainder of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a hamstring injury, forcing the team to bring in Dushan Hemantha as his replacement.

Earlier, fast bowler Eshan Malinga was also ruled out, with Pramod Madushan drafted into the squad. Despite these setbacks, Sri Lanka gained confidence from their opening win over Ireland, where their spin attack and middle order performed well, and captain Dasun Shanaka expects senior batters to anchor the innings.

Oman team news

Oman arrive for the match with a relatively new-look squad following major changes after internal restructuring in recent seasons. The team, led by Jatinder Singh, blends experienced names like Aamir Kaleem and Sufyan Mehmood with emerging players such as Vinayak Shukla and Jiten Ramanandi.

Oman, despite their massive loss against Zimbabwe in the campaign opener, will be hopeful of a quick turnaround and present a tough challenge to an injury-hit Sri Lanka.

Jatinder Singh: We're gonna bowl first, and since there is a bit of moisture, we just want to utilize the conditions. Well, I believe there's hardly anything you can pick from the first game, and it's like one game don't define us, so we just need to get our batting right, so I think everything will fall in place. Yeah, preparations have been really good, so they are the full members, so definitely they play really competitive cricket. We don't get a chance to play with the test playing nations, so this is a golden opportunity for us to come and showcase our talent. I think if you keep your wickets intact, maybe later on you can accelerate. That is what it seems like on this venue. There are two changes. We have Jay Odedra and Mohammad Nadeem coming in.

Dasun Shanaka: Yeah, happy to bat here, so it looks a very decent pitch. Yeah, happy to bat. Our previous match-winner misses out, but we don’t see it as a problem. The squad has good balance, and we’re confident in the players coming in. See, we expected to score more than that, but unfortunately, the circumstances doesn't allow. I mean, the pitch played a little bit. I mean, it was in the slow side. Hopefully, this will become better. Of course, we talk about the exact opposite, so hopefully, you know, if the conditions allow, so we might use them.
