A recurring theme in history of india is leaving the enemy after defeating him. Even though it looks very romantic, It is very foolish. History has proved it repeatedly. Still nobody has become any wiser. It is very amazing. How did the kings in the land of chanakya, do this foolishness repeatedly.

Prithvi vallabh.

Munj should not have let Mrinal go and today he is doing the same mistake by letting Tailap go. Khud ka bhi gala katvaayega aur apni praja ka bhi. Today I agreed with Sindhu that they are not fighting to capture and leave anyone.

Personally I feel its utterly dumb n foolish to let ur enemy go free coz then there's a heavy probability of him/her coming back at you stronger n fiercer...revenge can be all consuming after all!!

But war, politics n kingdoms are very convoluted
Its no mean feat to understand n handle them
As u have pointed out...yes history is rife with examples of the heavy costs that the kings have incurred who have freed their enemies

But the decision between freeing the enemy is foolish n punishing the enemy is wise...is not as simple as it may look
There are many factors that can influence that decision...

Ummm...does freeing the enemy after defeating him really looks romantic?!😲😆

I agree

There's a fine line between being gracious and being naive.

Prithvi is good, so he sees good in everyone and believes everyone will be good to him as long as he is good to everyone.

But as a king, his first duty is to ensure that malwa remains safe

because even after killing the enemy king, there will be his offsprings & future kings who will again keep up the enemity and attack to take revenge again and again.
Like it happened in the case of singdhant attacking malwa , then Mrinal attacking malwa, then tailab attacking malwa. If Prithvi would have killed Tailab then again Tailab's child or mrinal would have attacked malwa to revenge & resulted in more sainik's death from malwa's side. That is why it is said wherever possible to give a chance to peace & not go to war.
Prithvi wants to give peace a chance he does not want more war & killings for his own land. But the issue here is the opposite kingdom is foolish, and are not able to understand this in their wrong perception of prestige & honor. Prithivi's foresightedness & his good gesture is falling on deaf ears.

Prithvi also knows Mrinal is the main brain behind this attack. I think it was very foolish of him in letting her go that time. Now Killing tailab will not benefit malwa in any way. So he is giving peace a chance with mrinal

i dont think what prithvi is doing is foolish, instead i feel Tailab is foolish here. he is not able to understand a simple thing that the opposite kingdom does not want war & right now is making a peace deal for the future generations by freeing him.

I agree his idea of peace will only work if it is genuinely reciprocated and ideally Prithvi should have asked for Mrinal in exchange for Tailap since she is the one to have caused the devastation in his kingdom but his character like we know is forgiving and peace loving something on these lines where expected.

Even I find it foolish, but Prithvi wants to end the enmity. If he killed Tailap, it increases more and more. He just needs to know his Pitaji's adharmic act. I want to see his reaction. 😉
Malwa yuddh nahi chahti hai doesn't hold any essence thereafter. I really wonder what he'll do. I don't think he can request Mrinalvati to accept peace anymore.

Prithvi was very foolish letting Tailap go. From the way Mrinal attacked Malwa he should know she wont accept defeat with grace. When he finds out what his father did to her parents i think he will be even more kind and could even offer himself to be killed rather than his father.

As rightly pointed out by @naq5 freeing the enemy or killing them, both would result in future retribution. Killing tailap would instigate mrinal and manyakhet to attack malwa more fiercely.
I feel prithvi choose the better option out of the two as he hoped that freeing tailap would end the enemity.
He should've thought it out more thouroughly and maybe found out a way to make manyakhet promise not to attack in return for tailap, but his neither his intentions nor his thought process were wrong.
Both the options would invite war, but this option has a lesser chance, so that's what he choose

Well I think letting Mrinal go was not a wise decision.
But letting Tailap go I think it was not a wrong move

PV asked for money as compensation for families of those who died in the attack and also for re-developement of the destroyed property in exchange for Tailap and I think it was a brilliant idea

PV has extended a hand of friendship...he has taken the first step...he is not wrong in thinking that Malwa and Manykhrt should become friends after all at some point this hatred needs to stop

So, I guess leaving him once was fine thinking from PV's perspective

But if Manyakhet attacks again and then once again PV let's Tailap and Mrinal walk away then it will be foolish

There is a saying 'fool me once shame on you, fool me twice then shame on me'

So, if Manyakhet doesn't reciprocate with friendship now and instead attacks Malwa then PV should not let them go scot free..if he does then it will be a huge mistake

This case reminded me of Prithviraj Chauhan and Ghori...Prithvi had let Ghori go scot free so many times after defeating him in war..but when Ghori after so many defeats finally defeated Prithvi..he captured him

Here I always felt that more than Ghori it was Prithvi who are responsible for his downfall as he let Ghori walk away so many times instead of capturing or killing him
