I'm old enough to remember when Khomeini issued a fatwa against Salman Rushdie. Margaret Thatcher essentially said even if Rushdie died of natural causes, she would turn desert into glass.

And Rushdie had criticized Thatcher's policies before. He continued to do so after, even while expressing gratitude for her support. They did not agree on policy but did agree on freedom of speech.

Unfortunately, Theresa May is no Margaret Thatcher.

PS. SV actually was blatantly uncomplimentary (only in some sections). I haven't seen Padmavati, but the makers have been doing the rounds assuring people it's not.

PPS. The Congress government in India refused to support Rushdie. India banned SV.

It will be sweet, sweet karma if this stunt backfires and they lose the election.

Will be fun to see how quickly everyone drops the "outrage" in that event.

(I have no faith it will happen because this is the era of Trump and trumpism and nationalism, but one can hope)

I have never seen any of these politicians come out n actively seek action against crimes like rape, murder, or issues like poverty, dowry deaths n the likes. Tab desh jaaye bhaad mein. But one fictional movie that 'may possibly' contains facts that distort history is a big threat to our nation's integrity. Wow! Everyone is just trying to maximally reap benefits out of this situation. None of these politicians give a damn about India's history.
