Male superstars don't need to do anything.
1. The AUDIENCE (meaning us) need to practice what we preach. We need to watch more female centric films even if they are terrible. So many SRK and Sallu movies are trash and people still watch them and pay to support their stars. Do that for female artists as well because it is never about just that one film.
2. Actresses need to show more courage and choose movies where they are the star. Even if it pays less.
3. Filmmakers and producers should also take the chance and create female centric movies. But again, most are in it for the money and they will only take the risk if the first two happens.
CLEARING UP A BIG MISCONCEPTION HERE, stop saying actresses will get paid more when they pull in the same type of audience as the male stars. You are starting at the top of the list and comparing people to the biggest male stars. Start small to see where the problem starts. Actresses have mentioned numerous times that when two stars are of equal level the guy always gets paid more. Most of the time even when the actress is bigger than the male star he will get paid more. Don't compare the actresses to the Khans, AK and HR. In SOTY how much do you think Varun got paid and how much do you think Alia made? In BBB how much did Anushka get paid and how much did Ranveer get? In 2 states how much do you think Arjun made and how much did Alia make? Shraddha has been part of lots of hits. Did she earn significantly more than Arjun and Tiger in the movies she did with them? What about absolute newcomers. They have no fanbase to start with. Do they pay a male and female newcomer the same amount?
People use that saying when you pull the same crowd you will get the same amount as an excuse to pay less. They will always find a way to justify paying a women less. In real life work place it used to be men need more money to support family. In football, it is you don't fill the stadium like we do, even though there is a reason why that happens. Even when women do fill the stadiums they are paid less. When we go to watch movies we never tick a box and say if we came to watch the film for the actor or actress, but somehow it is always the man drawing us in.
