About the incident
On February 14, 2026, around 12:15 PM, a concrete parapet segment from the under-construction Mumbai Metro Line 4 viaduct collapsed onto LBS Road in Mulund West. The falling segment struck a moving auto-rickshaw and a car.
The falling debris crushed the vehicles, resulting in one fatality and injuries to three others. Emergency responders and metro officials secured the area and transported the injured to the hospital.
Following the incident, five project personnel were arrested, and the contractor and consultants faced significant fines. Authorities, including Maharashtra's deputy chief minister, initiated safety audits, probe committees, and suspended an executive engineer as they intensified their scrutiny of the metro project's construction safety protocols.
