It used to be frustrating to read things in english then blankly stare at someone hoping they will explain what I just read which actually means please translate in my mother tongue. I still remember how my grandfather taught me the tables in bengali and I could recite them like a poem and I was just in nursery then. Then when finally in standard 1 my school started teaching me the tables in english I failed the test because they asked in english 😆 Imagine what kachra the school did to my confidence in that one exam. Maths se nafrat ho gayi phir. I don't mind parents sticking to one language and preferably the language that is used in their school. It helps the child to learn better without getting confused. Its a sorry state of affairs that we don't have enough good schools that functions with indian languages.

Ak ekke AK DUI ekke dui😆 god I hated unis r soteror namta😆
That is a problem. Reading in an Bengali medium never had to face that problem but it can get difficult. I guess knowing how to converse fluently in mother tongue is ok , rest u can learn in English cause ultimately in India also college studies are in English only. It also depends on the family u know,Ur grandfather made sure u keep in touch with Bengali but many parents I see feel proud of their kids don't know how to speak in Bengali.
I had two Friends from same English medium school one could write great poems in Bengali herself ,the other one couldn't read Bengali unless written in English letter like SMS. But both went to same school which though English medium had Bengali as second language and gave a good lot of importance to learning Bengali too. It just makes me sad that some people feel ashamed about knowing their native language. parents n peer pressure too plays a big role.

Lol, I bet Jhanvi and likes think it's so cool to speak in broken Hindi and listen to top 40 and claim they listen to English songs only. And their Kylie Jenner hangover is so real... it's kinda sad. But jokes on them, cuz the crisis BW Is going thru with Indian based content working (ex Toilet being Hit, Bahubali being highest grosser ever , JHMS flopping), she better get her ish together and learn Hindi fast to survive

hindus just don't bother an inch about their languages. they feel proud in not knowing their languages. Hindu saints who were also poet struggled hard to survive the indian ones from vanishing and coming into the effect of persian , arabian and urdu.
her native language is punjabi and telgu , lives in bombay which is metro she doesn't speak marathi or hindi.
the problem is she doesn't know a single Indian language and is proud of it.

tamanna is comfortable in south indian languages. sonu sood too. if she is joining industry why she doesn't learn hindi . will it not affect her work ?? why movies are dubbed in so many languages ??

i don't like equating english with elite and sophistication and hindi with down ness.
english is easy language compared to dutch , german , latin , greek . langauge should not be bench mark of intelligence .

A statement like 'I don't listen to Indian songs' is considered cool while nobody dares to say 'I don't listen to English songs' even though they only get down and dirty to Indian songs. 😉

I wonder why Sri did not teach her daughters Telugu, Tamil or Hindi but nowadays parents are very intent on their kids being fluent in English, 'cause the world including fellow Indians judge you. The Bollywood/SoBo milieu are very judgemental and consider themselves oh so superior but it's funny when you see their inferiority complexes vis a vis white people.

I believe languages should be thought of as a means to communicate but if you start developing an inferiority/superiority complex because of knowing/not knowing a language, it becomes a problem.

Our nation as a whole has a raging inferiority complex regarding looks and language, hence non-native actresses can make it big here. If the reason was acceptance it would be different, but let's face it, Kat or Jackie only survive here 'cause they are 'gori'. You don't see black girls or even girls from our Northeast in movies.

Ranveer and Arjun Kapoor are probably the only actors who are fans of Indian Cinema. Absolutely love seeing them dancing to old hindi tracks. This craze for Hindi Cinema is missing in other star kids of the current generation. One can see how they consider east inferior to the west.

This trend of talking to kids only in English is slowly changing. More and more researchs point to the fact that exposing kids to more than one language in early childhood is beneficial for the kid's brain development. Parents are now trying to expose their children to as many languages as possible.

Now coming to the topic, Jhanvi's accent was horrible. She certainly didn't sound like a Punjabi or Tamilian struggling with Hindi... She wanted to sound like an English speaker who can't deign to learn Indian languages.

Jhanvi wanted to create a ' posh' image but failed miserably and managed to look like a bimbo...
