Yes
Most star kids sound super awkward in the the debut films nowadays cos even after diction classes they speak Hindi with a weird south Bombay accent 😕

I mean what's the shame in speaKing it?

Exception
rk, duggu, arjun, abhi, varun
I think they speak it very well because they're aware of their roots in a way that they don't feel that eliteness also.

Most star girls speak awful Hindi

your last 2-3 lines are so wrong...why are you disregarding the presence of non hindi speaking states/people in India? What is so unbelievable about that?If you are talking particularly about jhanvi then you could have worded it better.
Anyway...may be it isn't that she wants to show off by being all "oh look I don't know any Indian language"...may be her tamil/telegu(whatever her mother tongue is) is good...I agree that if she plans to join the hindi film industry her hindi should be good...let us see if she improves by then.

My tv favourite's hindi isn't good, she is a parsi whose schooling happened in ooty...when she started her television career her dialogue delivery was so affected and broken,it was clear her hindi was despicable...but she improved...I don't think even her critics who have problems with her acting will complain about her pronunciation.

So yes one can improve...let us see if jhanvi shows the willingness for it.

Her dad speaks Hindi and English. Sridevi speaks Telugu, Tamil and English. When her parents talk to each other in English, I'm sure she will pick up English more than Telugu or Hindi. So that's fine.

Anyway, she doesn't need to learn to speak in Hindi properly to act in Hindi films. Ever heard of Katrina or Jacqueline speak in Hindi? If they can do fine without being Indian, Jhanvi, having been brought up in Mumbai - I'm sure she will do more than fine.

what the eff is with people riding on high horses judging people about languages?
I've grown up outside of India and can speak Marathi fluently. Even then, snooty relatives/friends will laugh at the way I pronounce words.

Such f**kers lool. Let people speak however they can best communicate.

And don't complain about people when you allow Katrina Kaif to hog the cameras.

She needs to have talent.
Other things are secondary.

Her not knowing Hindi would be kind of justified if she knew Tamil/Telegu but she doesn't know those either...

Do you get to speak Tamil at home in Mumbai?

No, I don't. And that's something I miss. Unfortunately, my daughters don't speak Tamil. But I've my Tamilian staff whom I talk to, in the language. Though my mother-tongue is Telugu, I've spent most of my life in Chennai and Mumbai.

Living in a multi-cultural country like India and yet only knowing ONE language is kinda sad.

People criticise Kat for her poor Hindi but she wasn't born and raised in India unlike Jhanvi or other star kids. I wonder if these star kids, once they make their Bollywood debut, will get as much flak as foreign actors do for their Hindi skills.

54 % are not fluent in Hindi. They know hindi as in can communicate. There is a major difference between knowing a language and being fluent in it. Broken hindi is also considered as knowing hindi. Only 41% of the population that were surveyed for the census were said to be hindi speakers as in their mother tongue is hindi. That included various kinds of dialects too that were clubbed into one such as bhojpuri , awadhi, chatisghadi, ghadwali , magadhiand plenty more

Bollywood is a different thing.Their language is hindi so obviously anyone who wants to work there has to learn hindi.Thats why people learn english too, as it brings more job oppurtunities in private sectors. But being an Indian has nothing to do with being fluent in Hindi. You will be as much as an Indian if u know some other indian language other than hinditoo.More than 50 % speakers have a different mother tongue than hindi as it is and all those languages are also indian languages.

I don't what stats you are following but according to 2001 census 450 million has Hindi as their first language, now whether Bhojpuri, Awadhi etc, that rarely matters when there's communication ability. I mean differences between those languages is just like saying US English, UK English and Australian English aren't the same. Now moving to the total that can speak Hindi as either first, second or third language is said to be around 570 million. That's a little more half the population of India. And then majority of Gujarat, Punjab, Bengal and Maharashtra can speak Hindi. Now whether fluent or broken. They are able to communicate that's all it matters. I mean it's better than you saying English is India's first language when only 200k can speak it fluently. 😆

No body would care if u speak Martian...lol...if u were not planning to join the HINDI movie industry...Sridevi, Hema, Sharmila...and a few others have accents so strong that when they play the role of a Hindi speaking character ...its cringe worthy...the reason why Kat is bashed despite speaking her own dialogues...no one cares...really no one cares for what language u speak...just join that movie industry of that language if u don't know Hindi...otherwise be ready to be criticized like Katrina.
