Criticism or success, male stars are affected-Anushka Sharma

It isn't surprising to see several actresses speaking up against the prominent gender inequality in Bollywood. From income disparity to box office success, the difference between the two genders has instigated many actresses to stand up against it. After Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, now it is actress turned producer Anushka Sharma who spoke about the same.

What triggered the topic was a recent statement about Ranbir Kapoor who revealed an incident about how the failure of his film Bombay Velvet affected him and his impression in the industry circle. He had stated in a podcast that he received what he likes to call as the condolence' hug from his friends and colleagues after the way Bombay Velvet bombed at the box office. Although Anushka Sharma shared that it was completely unfair that this happened to him, she further asserted that the film did not affect her career that way. However, the actress also added that Bombay Velvet was more about Johnny's [Ranbir Kapoor] journey than Rosie's [Anushka Sharma]. Citing an example of how the failure of NH10 would have made her responsible for the same, she also mentioned that the reason behind this could also be the repercussion of his other films. She also maintained that she was less affected by the same since none of her films had flopped before or after Bombay Velvet.

Taking the topic of gender disparity in the industry further, Anushka Sharma believes that a male actor's success or failure always become a point of discussion along with which she revealed yet another reality of the industry by stating that an involvement of a male actor in a film is way more compared to that of a female. Comparing the way how a woman-oriented film fails to register remarkable opening day numbers at the box-office, Anushka further discussed the topic on gender divide by claiming how male actors are better valued in Hindi cinema. She, however, is looking forward to bring about a change as a producer by fostering a new value system in the long run that gives more weightage to content.

On the film front, Anushka Sharma is gearing up for the release of Jab Harry Met Sejal, directed by Imtiaz Ali. She has also been roped in opposite Shah Rukh Khan in yet another film to be directed by Aanand L. Rai and she has also started shooting for her home production Pari.
