flak for his gag at the IIFA, that he
performed with the hosts for the evening,
Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan. The hosts
were cracking a lot of jokes about the
industry, and one of the topics that they
joked about, was nepotism. When Varun
Dhawan came on stage to receive his award
for the Best Actor in a Comic Role (for
Dishoom), Karan Johar reminded him that he
is not here for his talent', rather for his
father, David Dhawan. Varun then told Saif
Ali Khan that he is also in the industry
because of his mother, Sharmila Tagore,
while Karan Johar is here because of his
father, the late Yash Johar. Together they
then proclaimed Nepotism Rocks!' There
was also another dig at Kangana Ranaut,
who had raked up the nepotism row during
the Koffee with Karan show.
However, most people didn't find any
humour in these gags, as they felt that they
were wearing nepotism' badge quite
proudly. All the three stars were slammed by
the Twitterati for this, however, Varun
Dhawan is the first one to apologise for the
gag. He tweeted:
I express my apology and regret .. I am
extremely sorry if I have offended or hurt
anyone with that act..

It is quite great on the part of Varun
Dhawan to not defend the gag, and
understand the general sentiment that is
prevalent among the fans. Now we have to
wait for how Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan
react to this.
The nepotism row got a lot of prominence
when Kangana Ranaut accused Karan Johar
of being the flag-bearer for the same on his
show. While her stance got her a lot of
support, Karan Johar slammed her in
another show saying she should stop
playing the woman' and the victim' card
everytime. Now with the IIFA gag backfiring
on them, we are sure the argument is not
going to end anytime soon.
