Ranveer Singh to play Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan's next?
The recent Fimfare cover with Salman Khan as the cover boy reveals that Ranveer Singh will play Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan's next
By Ishani Bose | Updated: June 30, 2017 7:00 PM ISTAfter Md. Azharuddin, MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar, looks like Kapil Dev too will join the league of getting filmed. Director Kabir Khan is ready with the idea for his next film based on the life of the Indian ace cricketer, Kapil Dev. The movie reportedly won't entirely be based on the cricketer's life. It will focus on the 1983 World Cup, where Team India won the cup under Dev's captaincy.
Initially, rumours were doing the rounds that Arjun Kapoor had been considered to play the part. However, the latest Filmfare cover with Salman Khan as the cover boy, reveals that it's not Arjun but his "buddy, Ranveer Singh, who has been roped in for the role. Yes you heard us right! (ALSO READ: This fact will make you want to be Ranveer Singh's neighbour right now!)
In fact, emerging reports indicate that Ranveer had always been Kabir's choice for the movie, but given that the Bajirao Mastani actor was busy with his work commitments for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus, Padmavati, the actor wasn't able to confirm the dates with the director. Apart from this, the actor is also expected to star in Zoya Akhtar's musical, Gully Boy opposite Alia Bhatt.
We think Ranveer Singh is befitting for the role as the man who led India to victory in the 1983 World Cup. This will also show RS in a never seen before avatar and will be a great break from the period dramas he has been doing. Also, Kabir Khan's films are known to have a war or socio-political backdrop as was his recent Tubelight which was based on Indo-Sino war of 1962. This project will be like treading a new path for the filmmaker and we are already excited. Are you too? Leave your views in the comment section below.
