TS: Spark in Despair
Part 1
Shivaay did not want to go their room. So much happened this day - so many revelations; so many disappointments; so much hurt; so much pain; above all, he felt betrayed. Prinku?? How could she deceive us? The three brothers have always protected her, no matter what, they have fought for her happiness and safety. But she... she broke their trust and ridiculed their love and care for her. How was he going to digest this truth? His eyes tickled with moistness. In the midst, Annika being at the backdoor lawns and her inability to reason, but pointing towards Pinky again... He is unsure what to believe, what not to believe, whom to believe and how to believe... And above all, why to believe...? He could very well feel that his family is breaking apart. What was he going to do? He swallowed his overflowing emotion and wiped his face with his hand. Now, he had a mess to clean up, he cannot fall weak, definitely not this time. He walked to the source of his strength.
***
Annika cried her heart out alone in the confines of their room. She knew she did not do anything. She knew Pinky had cornered her. She still was not able to understand, why Pinky hated her so much? Was she not keeping her son happy? Was she not walking hand-hand with her son? Was she not learning the family traditions? Then why does she want to send her out from this house? She never came in between any of the relations in this house. In fact, she wanted to create new relationships with each person in the house. Then why? Nothing makes sense. What would she gain by sending her out of the house? Whatever the differences between them, doesn't she realise that Shivaay is happy with her and it would break him to be away from her. Destiny was playing its game once again. It brought Shivaay into her life, after a long struggle they settled with each other, now that they want to move further, it is making them move back to square one. Life is just being completely unfair to her. She knows very well that her life and stay in Oberoi mansion is only because of Shivaay's trust in her. If the reason of her stay is getting doubtful, she is clueless what the future is going to bring to her. She was sure she never interfered in mother-son relation for what she was blamed, but now it was costing her marital life. She wiped her continuous flow of tears.
She realised that every time she is framed, she comes across Pinky as the source. But Shivaay could never agree to such a truth. Fair enough! She was his mother. She then recalled Mahi's words about Shivaay not being Pinky's son. If he could not hear to any fair accusation on Pinky, how was he going to take up the ultimate truth? And why does she have to come across the truth always? Why not someone else? 'Meri toh bad luck hi kharaab hai' she cursed herself. She removed her accessories as she spoke to herself in confusion, dilemma and grief. Above all, the only question constantly pricking her was - why does she need to prove herself? Not once, not twice, but every time... why was she being framed every time? Is her being in Shivaay's life the sole reason? Was she not destined to have some respite in her life?
"Lagta hai apni poori zindagi raita mein hi guzarnewala hai!!!" She walked to the cupboard to take her nightwear. "Waise bhi, agar main kuch karoon toh problem hai, agar kuch karti nahin toh bhi problem apne aap aa jaata hai. Shivaay teek hi kehte hai, musibat magnet hoon main!!! Pata nahin aur kya kya din dekhna padega unhein meri wajah se." She wiped her tears which had started to flow again. "Ek kaam karti hoon. Chup chap ek khone mein padi rahoongi toh yeh sab nahin hoga!!! Kisi ke maamle mein bhi dhakal nahin doongi toh Shivaay ko meri wajah se koi pareshani nahin hogi" Her hands stopped as she remembered something that happened on her wedding day. She got reminded that she had to marry Shivaay just because she had tried to help the other girl, in fact she had even forgotten the girl's name!!!
Her eyes widened as someone spoke her thoughts out. "Agar shaadi ke din mere faisle mein dhakal nahin diya hota toh aaj hum donon yahaan nahin hote!" She closed the cupboard to find Shivaay standing at the door. As soon as she came out of her shock, she wiped her tears, grabbed the nightsuit in her hand and started to walk away.
"Kahaan ja rahi ho?" Shivaay's voice stopped her.
She was not angry with him, but she did not want to have any word with him, right now. In fact, she did not have anything to tell him which he was willing to hear. Also, now was not the right time too, she felt. "Kapde badalne.." she said and walked away.
"Annika..." Shivaay called behind her, but she did not stop. Shivaay shook his head disappointed, and walked to grab his nightwear. He was not able to guess her plight right now; she did not even let him see her once properly; she just walked away immediately after meeting his eye.
As his hands laid on his nightwear, a strange thought clicked in his mind - her stunned face when she closed the cupboard door and looked at him.
'Was she thinking about the same which I spoke to her?' His mind froze at the next thought that surfaced his mind. 'Was she, by chance regretting all that happened between them?' His mind boggled at the new thoughts springing up. "No... Nahin... Annika aisi nahin hai... aisi nahin hai..." he spoke out aloud to himself to brush away such thoughts. He needed to speak to Annika to know what exactly happened. Something was definitely amiss. He needed to know what was transpiring in her mind. 'He needed to know.' He walked away to change his clothes.
***
When he came back, he found Annika sitting on the couch securing the jewellery inside the box. She neatly secured the dress she wore that day. As she stood with the jewellery box in one hand and her dress on the other hand, she came across Shivaay looking at her. She got startled, but composed herself. She started to move towards the door, after a thought turned around and her eyes searched for something. Shivaay followed her actions, one by one. When her eyes did not find what she was searching, she walked back, placed the things she was carrying on the table and walked around the room searching again.
Shivaay, too, looked around to guess what she was searching for. When he could not handle the curiosity and the silence, he asked, "Kya doond rahi ho?"
Annika, still searching, replied, "Paani."
Shivaay frowned, "Kyun? Phenkne ke liye?" Annika looked at him as if he had gone bonkers. Shivaay further asked, "Ab kya hua? Jo bhi hua--"
Annika cut him in between, "Peene ke liye... Agar nahin hai, toh bharke le aaongi." she spoke clearly.
Shivaay's face became long. When Annika did not find what she was searching for, she started leaving the room with the things she had placed on the table.
"Tumhein jaane ki kya zaroorat hai? Staff hai, Annika." Shivaay tried to stop her.
"Jaanti hoon. Lekin, main apna kaam khud kar sakti hoon." Annika replied curtly, not turning back.
Shivaay again tried to stop her. "Yeh sab leke kahaan ja rahi ho?"
Annika rolled her eyes, but replied patiently, "Bua maa ne, function mein pehenne ke liye di thi. Wapas karne ke liye ja rahi hoon."
"Kyun?" Shivaay was confused. "Wapas karne ki kya zaroorat hai? Rak sakti ho." Shivaay mentioned.
Annika turned back and looked at him. "Shivaay. Mujhe iski zaroorat nahin hai." Annika spoke clearly as she continued, "Unke de dene se meri nahin ho jati." Shivaay was unable to interpret what exactly she was meaning. Annika stated further, "Waise bhi doosron ke cheezon ko apne paas rakhne ki aadat nahin hai. Mera jo hai, jo nahin hai, usse main khush hoon." She left the room without waiting further.
And, Shivaay was just left looking at her retreating back.
Shivaay controlled himself for sometime. When the day's events ran and re-ran in his mind in loop, he had enough. He needed Annika now; he had to speak to her. He proceeded to Bua ma's room in search of Annika.
***
"Bhaiya kyun nahin samaj rahe hai, Bua maa? Ranveer achcha ladka hai. Mujhse pyar karta hai." Priyanka was explaining Bua maa crying. That was what Annika heard when she came in search of Bua maa, but only to be told that she was with Priyanka.
Bua maa wiped her tears and consoled her, "Ho sakta hai, phir bhi, tumhein aise bhaagke shaadi nahin karni chahiye thi. You shouldn't have done that, you know."
"Par, bhaiya meri baat sunne ke liye tayyar hi nahin hai. Toh kya samjaoon unhein?" Priyanka ranted her worries.
"Puttar, sabr naam ki bhi cheez hoti hai. Agar tum thodi shanti dikhate toh shayad samaj jaate. But, what you have done now is completely wrong." Bua maa explained patiently. "You've hurt them, darling. You disappointed them."
"Unhein samajna hoga. Agar woh kare toh sahi, main karoon toh galat ho gaya?" Priyanka questioned.
Something snapped suddenly inside Annika. Now she couldn't be a silent spectator. "Achcha?!" she spoke out. Bua maa and Priyanka looked at Annika standing at the door. Annika asked as she entered the room, "Toh tumhara matlab ye hai ki jo tumne kiya, aur jo tumhare bhaiyon ne kiya, donon ek hai?"
Priyanka looked at Annika for support. "Bhabhi, aap toh samjhiye. Aapke saath bhi yehi hua tha, naa?"
"Nahin Priyanka, mere saath jo hua, ya mere aur Shivaay ke beech jo bhi hua, sirf humein pata hai. Waise bhi Shivaay aur Ranveer ek nahin hai." Annika spoke clearly.
"Ek nahin toh kya, haalat toh ek hai na?" Priyanka asked.
"Kis haalat ki baat kar rahi ho? Shivaay ko mujhse shaadi karni padi, kyunki unke parivaar ki izzat daav par thi. Tumhein aur Ranveer ko kaunsi majboori aa gayi? Batao, Priyanka?"
Bua maa looked at both the girls sympathetically.
"Agar tum majboor ho toh, tum apne bhaiyon se bata sakti thi. Tumhare liye teenon duniya ko idhar ko udhar kar denge, tum bhi jaanti ho. Toh bataya kyun nahin? Ranveer ko bachati kyun rahi? Aur us Ranveer ko, jisne Shivaay ko kidnap kiya... aur... aur jiski ma... matlab, jiski masi, tumhare bhaiya ko maarna ki koshish ki thi?"
Priyanka started to cry profusely.
Annika shook her head and looked at Bua ma. She knew none was going to understand what she meant. She carried on the work for which she landed there, "Bua maa, yeh kapde aur jewellery, jo aapne mujhe di thi."
Bua maa said, "Why are you giving me? Tumhare liye tha, puttar."
"Nahin bua maa, aapne mujhe ye sab dene layak samjha, yehi badi baat hai." She smiled at the older lady gratefully.
"Ek baat poochoon, puttar?" Bua ma asked. Annika nodded her head. She asked, "Tum back lawns kyun gayi thi?"
Annika remembered the Pinky's conversation over the phone, Shivaay not believing her and Ranveer's statement. She smiled sadly, "Main Pinky aunty ko doondte huye... by chance gayi thi... Mere kehne se koi kyun maanega? Agar mujhe pata hota ki yeh sab honewala hai, toh kabhi nahin jaati."
"Mmm... " Bua maa sighed. "Kaash tumne back lawns ka darwaaza nahin khola hota..."
"Toh kya? Toh kya bua maa? Phir bhi Ranveer aaya hoga. Agar Ranveer zabardasti kar raha hota toh, yeh bata sakti thi na? Bula sakti thi humein. Awaaz de sakti thi. Ghar hai, bua maa, jungle yar registhan thodi hai, ki koi paas nahin hai." Annika spoke the facts.
"Aisi nahin hai, bhabhi. Haalat aisi thi..." Priyanka explained.
"Kis haalat ki baat kar rahi ho? Kya Ranveer ne tumhein jaan se maarne ki dhamki di thi ki tum majboor ho gayi? Nahin na... Haalat sahi kiya jaata hai, uske liye madad li jaati hai." Priyanka went silent. "Pehle bhi haalat teek nahin thi, phir bhi... phir Shivaay ne teek kiya tha... "
Bua maa looked at Annika, but was concerned for Priyanka.
"Ek baat batao, Priyanka. Agar maine darwaza khula nahin hota, tab Ranveer ne tumhein bulaya hota, kya tum nahin jaati?" Annika hit the bull's eye. Priyanka's silence and tears made Annika say, "Kaash tum meri dost nahin hoti... Kaash tum Shivaay ki behen nahin hoti... Kaash..." Annika's eyes became wet. "Us din jab tumhare dost hokar tumhari galti sudharne ki koshish ki, tab bhi main Shivaay ki nazron mein galat thi. Aaj tumhare bhabhi hokar kuch nahin kiya, tab bhi main Shivaay ki nazron mein galat hoon. Us din bhi tumne kuch nahin bola, aaj bhi nahin...Aur bola toh... sab... bakwaas..." Annika smiled sadly and left the room, leaving Priyanka crying again.
****
Annika was lost in thoughts when she entered the room with Shivaay after confronting Pinky (Thursday n Friday episode with 3 days ultimatum)
Her mind was still reeling in Pinky's words. Her brain froze. She returned to their room guided by Shivaay like a zombie.
Jis din se paida hua hai, us din se jaanti hoon ki Shivaay mera bachcha nahin hai.
Iska matlab ek aur hai, ki Shivaay najaayez hai.
Tu khud soch, jab Shivaay jise apne khoon-khandaan-naam pe itna ghamand hai, usko yeh pata chalega ki woh Oberoi toh hai, Shaktiji ka beta bhi hai, lekin uski maa Shaktiji ki patni nahin thi, ek rakhail thi, rakhail... mistress... do you mistress?
Uska naam jaanna chahti ho? Naam jaanna chahegi us aurat ka? Us aurat ka naam hai, Kameeni.
Kameeni hi hai, Mahi aur Shivaay ki maa. Mahi aur Shivaay bhai hai. Aur Shivaay ke ragon mein us Kameeni ki ghanada khoon daudta hai. Tu khud hi soch, jab Shivaay ko pata chalega, toh uska kya haal hoga?
Just like her brain, her tears also froze
Tu khud kuch aisa karegi, jiski wajah se Shivaay tujhe dhakke maar kar bahar nikhal dega. Aur iske liye tere paas sirf teen din hai.
"Shivaay..." her mind cried out aloud... loud enough that Shivaay heard. Shivaay turned back to look at her.

He was upset with her, mad at her, frustrated with her. What was wrong with her? Why does she want to be behind his mother always? Inspite of him explaining her, she did again. Now, few minutes back, when he found Annika and his mother together, he sensed that there was a serious heated confrontation between both. He pacified his mother and sent back to her room. When he was walking back to his room, mad at Annika, he found her in the same place, still as a statue, her eyes moving around, but her mind elsewhere. He looked around, held her hand and took, in fact dragged her to their room. When he was about to shout at her, he heard her muffled cry sounding "Shivaay...
"What's wrong with you, Annika?" he expressed his disappointment. "Phir se mom ke saath behes mein lag gayi? Tumhare paas iske alawa koi kaam nahin hai kya? It's so embarrassing, Annika... Woh meri maa hai. Samajthi kyun nahin?" He held her arms to shake her. Only then he realised she was not paying attention to him because as soon as he shook her, her legs wobbled and she fell down. He panicked and knelt down beside her. "Annika..." he called her. He held her face and brushed away the hair from her face. All his disappointment, complaints vanished into thin air.
"Kya hua, Annika?" She silently sobbed, without tears falling from her eyes. Worry started to kill him when she did not respond at all, lost in her own world. "Annika... Look at me... Yahaan dekho Annika... " He shook her continuously. He patted her face. "Annika, Main Shivaay... look at me. Annika... Mujhe dekho..." he kept on calling her.
Annika was still reeling in the words Pinky spat out. Her world turned upside down. Her whole concern was her Shivaay... How was he going to confront the truth? How... What an ironic play by destiny!!! All through his life, he looked down the people with no surname and legitimacy, now the same question was about to hover over his head! How was that person going to stroll the path? And most importantly, if the person in the context happened to be Shivaay Singh Oberoi!!! It seems as a vicious life-cycle of the nature. "AAAHHH", Annika howled at last.
Shivaay was thrown aback. His hold on her loosened. He looked at Annika wailing, his one hand lightly on her cheek and the other hand loosely holding her arm. He had never seen a woman crying in this way... reflecting and emitting so much pain... as if it was buried deep under for so long that it was erupting owing to high pressure... The release of pain was so vigourous that Shivaay lost control of himself and the situation. Sometime ago, his mother was also crying, he felt the urge to stop her cry, but it was as if she was crying out of disappointment. It did not make him feel hurt and pain in his chest. Right now, Annika's cry was making him weak, helpless, just because he felt her pain in the center of his chest. "Annika..." he whispered gently. He held her face between his hands and looked at her closed eyes. He had not met her eyes since the time she had run away from the function after his outburst. She always looked at him when he held her face. Now her eyes were closed.
He had enough. He looked around hurriedly. Unable to locate the object of his need, he scooped Annika in his arms and carried out of the room along the corridors of his house. He came to stop and looked once more at Annika. Her cry has reduced, but the pain on her face was still swirling. He decided and tossed her away.
SPLASH!!!!
Annika's chain of thoughts broke that instant. She stopped breathing for a second, then when she breathed again, she inhaled lot of water. Her eyes, nose, mouth got filled with water. She tried to steady her legs to stand up. That very instant, two arms came around, pulled her out and held her safely. Annika coughed to spit out the water and took long breaths to fill her lungs with air instead. It took a minute or two for her to regain her normal self.
Finally, she raised her eyes and saw in front of her - Shivaay, the object of her thoughts, the reason of her thoughts was standing in front of her with a concerned, worried face. She returned his gaze with curiosity.
Realising her senses were back, Shivaay spoke, "Kya hua, Annika?"
