As for Sonam, seems like her team got burned by the controversies surrounding awards last year. Sonam herself did say that Neerja was beyond awards for her, so in that sense it would make sense that they wouldnt submit her name? & if true, it confirms the meaning behind the Special Mention. Unforgettable performances indeed.🥳

It doesn't work that way. The producer submits the film for relevant categories including Acting.

Special Jury/Mention honors are at the discretion of the jury when a particular film or performance or technical department still needs to be called out when they are not being awarded in the main category.

This is such a great opportunity for Sonam to change her focus towards films that will take her a step forward. NEERJA has been a boon to her career. Hope she capitalizes it.

Meanwhile get ready to Cheer. ⭐️

What Priyan meant was that Ash was the final contender with Surbhi. Again very surprising as there were many strong leading Hindi film performances better than Sarbjit.

My guess is that those films didn't make it to the second round of shortlist. Phobia, UP, Kahaani2

One thing is for certain,.,. NAs have a soft corner for biopics.

There's this small scene in Aligarh right after Dr. Sirus (Manoj Bajpayee) is thrown out of the college for being gay (as far as as I remember), he comes home, prepares a small drink for himself while listening to 'aapki nazron ne samjha' and then slowly starts humming the song in loneliness. Again, when he gets thrown out of his house for his sexual orientation, he rents a new home, again sits by himself, prepares a peg while listening to 'beytaab dil ki tamanna hai' and hums again. The dedication with which Manoj performs those scenes, I don't even know how to describe it in words; it is like you are watching Dr. Siras and not Bajpayee.

Again, there's a scene where Siras tells that he likes kids because kids don't judge and how he hates that people so easily define something as precious as love in a three letter word 'gay'.

It breaks my heart that neither Manoj nor the film was even considered for the competition let alone make it to the top 3 or win. If one of India's finest universities breaching into the privacy of an individual at his own house and publicly shaming him for sexual orientation through video recording or sacking him from him from his post is not social issue then what is??

Akki is a good actor but been rewarded in the wrong year, it's a bizarre choice given so many worthy contenders existed. Nevertheless, I'm happy for his success. He's a wonderful guy.

Oh well... otherwise regionals ruled this year.

You summed up my feelings for Akki very well. Iam always peeved when actors dont receive the prize for their best work. I have yet to see both movies (i stayed away because everyone spoke about how much they were flawed, innacurate.. & quite sexist) so i cannot say if he was @ his best in them, i will trust your judgement. I honestly thought others actors would get it for their stellar performances. But eh.

I think the Jury made a conscious effort to reward regional movies this year, & i find it good. That is what the National Awards are for after all: to bring light to the best of the best. & that is not always Bwood. The Malayalam industry is the real winner this year & omg PC s movie Ventilator won big😲

She is turning out to be a force to reckon with wow.

Sigh, so many movies & produtions to catch up on. More procrastination 😭🥳
