Betty, sorry but I edited my first post to add few points...

I agree that it is not the ONLY profession. I believe that every profession celebrates life.

But I can see where she's coming from too.

Acting is one of the few professions that bring both the giver and receiver on a purely personal interface.

Everyone of us on the planet who have a life, have emotions/psyche. Acting is exploring emotions/psyche while portraying life. (Celebration of this
EDIT happens because actors are alive through it, and aim to connect, inspire if not achieve it). And life is personal for everyone.

^ that is what she meant by saying "celebrating life" or that is the point I see in what she said.

I say it was politically incorrect because it isn't the 'only' profession that celebrates life. The only part is not PC. :p

Edit ---

As for acting as a profession not being a necessity for society :

Yes, but I don't think or see how that is implied in the sentence "...profession that celebrates life" :p

I think all professions celebrate life in their own unique way

Yes she said "If there are no movies, you'll have to watch mixed martial arts and football and they are not art" and the way she said it too... How arrogant...

First of all nobody is against movies, and people did survive before movies were invented in the 20th century... I don't know if there is any correlation but despite the hard life, there was less depression and people were happier before movies, tv and internet 😊

Ugh I hate actors who think they are so above others when they are only where they are because us common folk pay to see their movies. They need to get over themselves they are not gods. No matter what ladder you are in society we humans all meet with the same fate in the end so it is pointless to try to one up each other. Many profession celebrate life as well, like doctors and psychologists and photographers etc.
