In recent years I too have observed the increasing trend to portray gang violence, abuse and other violent crime on the small screen. The crimes are played out in sordid detail with heavy beating, lots of blood etc. These certainly do not make for suitable viewing by a 'general' audience (i.e. minors) and even those in their majority who do not want/expect to see these things onscreen without prior warning.

With this in mind, I agree with Bonheur's comment. A classification system is needed or a caution should be screened just after the opening credits. They were doing this for alcohol consumption (although the subtitle style would not work for the kind of scenes mentioned here), so why not do the same for violence and other unsuitable materials?

That said, I have to disagree with some aspects of the petition. I feel it is overly ambitious and unrealistic to expect censors to cut scenes of crimes like perjury or non-violent kidnapping. Jagdu, please don't be offended but where would the serial world be without these? I don't think serial dramas can function if these things are censored completely. Without second marriage, equal opportunity for women, zero crime rate - everyone would live in harmony and there would be no basis for drama! The important point to drive home is the ultimate triumph of good over evil, the immorality of crime, gender equality etc.

Producers and directors and even actors should be aware that children also watch these serials when their parents do and they all come in prime time, especially since indian kids dont have strict early to bed routine.
Thanks for opening up this petition and please do count me in.

Why just sun TV?? Every channel in india which telecasts serials shud be regulated.

There's no serial without violence, brutal murders and , horrifying happenings. The first day, the heroines father is killed, second day husband is beaten uo, third day child is kidnapped.......... is this wht real life is abt? Hoenstly, I prefer reality shows.

Count me in. 😊
