I wrote this story a while back. Thought I'd share.
Once upon a time, there was a little boy. He was the apple of his mother's eyes.
One day he saw that his friends got a dog. So he wanted one too.
He told his mother that he wanted a dog.
The mother didn't like dogs or any pets for that matter. So she said no.
The boy cried and cried until his mother just had to give him to make him happy.
They went to a kennel and the boy picked out a dog.
The kennel owner told the dog that he loves all dogs that he breeds. He is trusting him with his puppy so he will have to take care of it. The dog needs walking, play time, feeding, vet visits etc. So the boy has to take responsibility for it.
The boy eagerly agreed to everything. He couldn't wait to bring his new puppy home. He even agreed to let the puppy sleep on his bed even though his mother would have preferred the puppy to be in dog house preferably out of sight.
So the puppy came home and for the first few days, the boy wanted to spend all his time with the puppy.
But then he realized that the puppy is not doing what he wants it to do when he wants it to do.
He wanted to play video games but the puppy wanted to go out.
He wanted to sleep but the puppy made a mess in his room which needed to be cleaned.
He wanted to hang out with his friends, but the puppy needed to be taken for exercise.
He tried to train the puppy, but no use.
He thought that he will play with the puppy and when the play time is over, he will live the way he always lived and do what he had always done.
He couldn't understand why his life had to change at all. So he started to ignore the puppy. But the more he ignored, the more hyper the puppy got to get his attention.
So he went to his mother and said that he loves the puppy but it is too much responsibility.
His mother initially agreed to take care of the chores. But the puppy had only one master, it didn't want to go for walk with his mother where it's the boy it wanted to spend time with.
The boy got even more upset. He didn't want the puppy to change his life but didn't want to give it away to a happy home either. Instead he started to ignore the puppy. Neglected, ignored and broken hearted, one day the puppy died.
The boy felt sad, but also relieved to have his life back exactly the way he wanted it without any change.
Years passed, the boy is now a man. He saw that his friends got a wife. So he wanted one too.
He told his mother that he wanted a wife.
The mother didn't like women. So she said no.
The man cried and cried until his mother just had to give in to make him happy.
But she asked if he knows what he is asking?
The man said with a big smile, "Don't worry mother. A woman's family and society train them better than pets. Even if they are flawless, society teaches them that they are flawed and if they have even minute issues, society teaches them that they are worthless whom no one will ever want.
So they don't die of heartbreak. They learn to cope by breaking down their self-respect, dignity and confidence in their own self and as time passes, they learn to pass it on to other women. I don't have to do anything, mother. Regardless of what I do, there always be society and her own family to convince her that it's all what she is good for. It's what she is worth."
