I wrote this story a while back. Thought I'd share.

Once upon a time, there was a little boy. He was the apple of his mother's eyes.

One day he saw that his friends got a dog. So he wanted one too.

He told his mother that he wanted a dog.

The mother didn't like dogs or any pets for that matter. So she said no.

The boy cried and cried until his mother just had to give him to make him happy.

They went to a kennel and the boy picked out a dog.

The kennel owner told the dog that he loves all dogs that he breeds. He is trusting him with his puppy so he will have to take care of it. The dog needs walking, play time, feeding, vet visits etc. So the boy has to take responsibility for it.

The boy eagerly agreed to everything. He couldn't wait to bring his new puppy home. He even agreed to let the puppy sleep on his bed even though his mother would have preferred the puppy to be in dog house preferably out of sight.

So the puppy came home and for the first few days, the boy wanted to spend all his time with the puppy.

But then he realized that the puppy is not doing what he wants it to do when he wants it to do.

He wanted to play video games but the puppy wanted to go out.

He wanted to sleep but the puppy made a mess in his room which needed to be cleaned.

He wanted to hang out with his friends, but the puppy needed to be taken for exercise.

He tried to train the puppy, but no use.

He thought that he will play with the puppy and when the play time is over, he will live the way he always lived and do what he had always done.

He couldn't understand why his life had to change at all. So he started to ignore the puppy. But the more he ignored, the more hyper the puppy got to get his attention.

So he went to his mother and said that he loves the puppy but it is too much responsibility.

His mother initially agreed to take care of the chores. But the puppy had only one master, it didn't want to go for walk with his mother where it's the boy it wanted to spend time with.

The boy got even more upset. He didn't want the puppy to change his life but didn't want to give it away to a happy home either. Instead he started to ignore the puppy. Neglected, ignored and broken hearted, one day the puppy died.

The boy felt sad, but also relieved to have his life back exactly the way he wanted it without any change.

Years passed, the boy is now a man. He saw that his friends got a wife. So he wanted one too.

He told his mother that he wanted a wife.

The mother didn't like women. So she said no.

The man cried and cried until his mother just had to give in to make him happy.

But she asked if he knows what he is asking?

The man said with a big smile, "Don't worry mother. A woman's family and society train them better than pets. Even if they are flawless, society teaches them that they are flawed and if they have even minute issues, society teaches them that they are worthless whom no one will ever want.

So they don't die of heartbreak. They learn to cope by breaking down their self-respect, dignity and confidence in their own self and as time passes, they learn to pass it on to other women. I don't have to do anything, mother. Regardless of what I do, there always be society and her own family to convince her that it's all what she is good for. It's what she is worth."

🥺 Painfully true. 🤔

Asha is the type of woman why womenkind as a race is still left far behind. We are living in an age where goodness and kindness is perceived as weakness. Her useless suggestions on how GREAT Dev is as a SIL is exactly what's wrong with the society.

I dont know what Indian Television is upto. As treating women body as private property formula is already used in another serial YHM, CVs might have thought what worse they can do to show what more women 'should' tolerate, so let's have her father slapped by her husband and she would learn to expect to 'understand' and 'adjust'. 😊

This is why regular 'rape' doesnt make it to the headline anymore. It has to be something extraordinarily inhuman to get a reaction out of people these days. Sad state of affairs. Feel literally ashamed to witness such regressive mentality around me.

The basic mistake, respect cannot be given, it has to be earn. Sona worked only towards being 'laued' by her MIL so much so that she forgot that she had some self-respect which cannot be traded against any other emotion/material/living being in the world.🤢

Unfortunately that is the reality. Like you mentioned, regular rape is now milk and rice, people react only when violation reaches inhuman level. But even then some people defend the rapist.

Emotional and mental abuse doesn't register, physical abuse opens people mouth. Even then some people tries to find reasons of abuse and justify it somehow.

Regular name calling and daily insults don't matter, public humiliation raises conscience. Yet some people defend the person who striped down a woman's dignity.

This is how systematically, generation after generation, we raise women with so little self-respect and self-worth that even the most qualified and confident ones lose their confidence in themselves.

I believe, before asking for respect, one needs to respect oneself first. No one can disrespect someone if they don't let them. It's not like Sonakshi is an uneducated, illiterate woman without any supportive family who can't even get a job.

Sonakshi is an educated woman with her own earning power. Yet she reduced her dignity to less than Kichu. At least Kichu can leave the job and walk away. She has signed lifelong subservience to Dev the way he has signed to Ishwari.

She is just paying that price. I wonder if Sonakshi ever thinks that what would have happened, if she had married a real man like Ritwik instead of a Mamma's spoiled brat. The first one a woman can learn to love, the other a woman can only progressively learn to tolerate, if not hate as time passes.

True story indeed !

To be honest, I can't even imagine how much it pains in real life to experience what Sonakshi is going through... I know there may be a tiny bit of blame on her as well for trusting Dev, but I feel that poor girl has been trapped from all sides...

No matter what, I always feel Bijoy is an example of a good father.

There are some home truths which every girl in India was taught at least when I was of marriagable age :
1. It takes years of sacrifices to build a stable relationship.

2. all guys lean towards their own family in the beginning. So stay quite, be respectful towards everyone, keep your inlaws happy. Slowly and steadily your husband will start loving and trusting you more than his family. One day you will mean the world to him but you have to show tons of patience for that.

3. Even if you are as educated as your husband, let your career take a backseat. Your income is supposed to be supporting. Don't be very ambitious. Sacrifice when needed for the sake of children and family.

If one looks closely these advices are not wrong. I have seen my sisters and peers following them. Yes a few years painful life has to be borne but it ensures a very happy and mentally satisfying balance life in which there is genuine love and respect. Anti depressants and psychologists are never needed.

But then it needs to be evaluated on a case to case basis as to whether such sacrifices are worth it? I struggled for several years in my marriage applying these same principles but then ultimately had to give up. I had a neighbour whose husband had an extra marital affair but her parents were not allowing a divorce citing ghar ki izzat. Ultimately she was murdered.

So then what is the acid test for determining whether the relationship is worth sacrificing or not: it's only and only the husband. If he is a decent human being only then it's worth fighting for your marriage. however crooked the In-laws might be, they will ultimately come around if husband is good.

In this case the husband himself is a lying cheating weakling who just doesn't love his wife enough to care for her feelings or take a stand for her. Why then does Sonakshi have to struggle so much to make his family happy or gain their acceptance?

When the end goal itself is an utter waste, why undertake the journey?
