Even here, this whole discussion about Sona keeping her self-respect intact and moving on stems from the expectation of a certain kind of "perfect" behavior, isn't it? I wonder how the audience would react if she is shown completely unable to come to terms with losing her love and tries to bring Dev around, while her family points out how utterly pathetic and ridiculous her behavior is. 😆

@bold: That is a very futuristic vision for Indian tv. 😆 Although I have seen a couple of shows try, they almost always end up bowing to evil forces and mainstreaming it.

The problem is that most shows start off with a strong characterization only for it to be diluted and butchered like no tomorrow..Most female leads only seem to have a voice only when the male lead bullies them ( even that is restricted only to the 'falling in love' phase in most cases just so the guy can fall for her sass and feisty nature and once the love story starts, the girl is nothing but a glorified doormat)..I can't think of one female lead who was selfish and truly flawed and immature and imperfect. Even if she is flawed (like say Meera in BBKD or even Suhana in SGP), at the end of the day she is truly a nice person who is full of heart..The male leads are no different tbh. One end of the spectrum, you have male leads who are voiceless and all kinds of perfect and annoyingly sanskari like Sooraj and other end of the spectrum you have abusive and arrogant ones like ASR (and every other Gul K lead) who are all redeemed only because they had a difficult past and love their family and are 'really nice guys' at the end of the day beneath all the arrogance and physical abuse and patriarchal behavior😆

@tia.o- You got me wrong. I have no issues with Dev pining for Sona. I don't really care at this point cos all the melodrama in the past few weeks has really managed to put me off..My only issue was with the POV that Sonakshi (or any girl for that matter) not moving on equates to lack of self respect. Cos IMO, it is a choice at the end of the day. So long as you are not ruining another person's life and so long as you don't go around begging the guy to take you back, i don't see why a girl not willing to move on for a long time even if she has been dumped is looked at as regressive or lack of self respect.

Oh I am sorry. I probably misread. Yes, you are right. I personally believe that we should not judge people for their choices. Whether a woman wants to stay home and be a mother or go out and make a career, as long as it's her choice, there is nothing regressive about it. The same way whether a girl pines away her life like Devdas (female version) or moves on, there should not be an argument about it provided it's her choice and she makes it without any pressure from anyone.

In this particular situation, Dev is in a regressive position. All his choices are influenced by his mom. His mom raised the boy, but to be a man he needs to grow up to be his own person. Loving your family is a good thing, being your family's puppet is not.
