There is no doubt both loved each other but both choose family happiness yes it was dev who first choose his mother happiness and I am sure if situation reverse sona will also choose her family happiness. Dev didn't loved her enough to fight for his love and sona didn't loved him enough to wait for him. And I am sure this triangle help both dev sona how much they love each other what extent they can go to stay together.

Yes Dev has made a mistake and I also do not want him to suffer for life. He needs to realize that for everyone their family & self respect are important. He broke Sona & her family's trust and let see if he does an effort to rectify the mistakes he has made in his obsession to please his mother. He will not only have to win Sona but her family as well and also make his mother understand where she went wrong in a mature way without hurting anyone self respect.

The thing is he took this decision of breaking up unilaterally without Sona's input and his words hurt Sona & made her think that she is not that important to him. That's what most of are mad at him right now.
