KJo and the No Smoking director bumped into each other at a Bandra nightspot and patched up without a fight. How boring!
It was the most unlikely encounters in the most unlikely of places! Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap came face-to-face at a Bandra nightspot recently while listening to some soulful jazz renditions.
Considering that both the filmmakers have indulged in verbal volleys, name calling and even thrashing each other's kind of cinema and cliques, there was strangely no pow-wow between the two.
No fireworks
Says an onlooker, "There was a crowd at Seijo and the Soul Dish soaking in the music as part of the recent Bandra Festival. When Karan Johar entered, he found Anurag Kashyap standing a few inches away from him. We expected icy cold stares, if not fireworks between the two but there was none considering that both had taken on each other in the past."
The director of Black Friday and No Smoking admits he had an unexpected encounter with Karan. "As soon as I saw Karan, I looked at him and said, "Hi." This was followed by 'I am sorry.' It was a case of let bygones be bygones."
While Anurag was gracious enough to make the first move, Karan was gracious enough to accept his apology. Adds Anurag, "He was cool. Anyway Karan is an extremely cultured person unlike me! I felt good after I had apologised to him. All that I had said was in the heat of the moment. And now it is all over."
Past tense
Karan says, "We came face-to-face, smiled, said a hi and hugged each other. It was a cordial meeting. What has happened has happened, after all we are part of the industry."
Anurag admits that he used to wonder what he would say if he ever crossed Karan's path. "But it all happened so quickly and is over and done with."
So would they strike a conversation the next time around? "Maybe," says Anurag, "But I am glad I apologised. It was all very cordial after which we went our way enjoying the music."
