This an article from the well respected Caravan Magazine. Its pretty long but its an interesting read for those genuinely curious about bollywood casting and how it discriminates and labels the poor and the outsiders. It just makes you a little sad when you realise that the world is so disproportionately favouring those that are blessed to be born in rich (and even middle income) families.

Oh dear...what an amazingly written article. I could visualize every image and honestly this made me sad. The passion for movies and acting for some people goes beyond the materiliastic desires. It's an integral part of their life, makes them what they are. Film industry is so ruthless, so competitive but the end of it, it's only filled with kids from affluent families unlike other professions and industries that have fierce competition, yet everybody who strives real hard gets a chance to shine after one point.

this article is just sad , but i think in the end everything depends on the contacts and you have to lick everyone's asses ,not just actors just ask anyone like a new director or music directors or any new upcoming singers

THIS. In other professions education, hard work, talent are such great equalisers. But not in bollywood. We are probably the only film industry in the world that is run like 95% on nepotism. true insider talent is rare. instead we will have a few years of mediocre starkid and then some new, equally talentless starkid takes their place

Thats why i dislike film makers like Kjo who can give chance to newcomers but instead are just so openly nepotistic.

Its a long article but i'm glad that some of you have read it. Caravan magazine writes beautiful pieces.

People in Marathi Industry have gone through so much and more.

Marathi stars like Bharat Jadhav, Ankush Chaudhary have even sold Vegetables on the road, just to collect money to setup plays and dramas.

BW, is a different ball game...here spoilt rich brats like KJo and others rule...whereas outsiders even if talented has to either struggle or get involved with the heavy weights of BW.

Bollywood no more gives an opportunity to people from the other side of the town. Its really sad, talent here is only respected if u come from a well to do family.

the truth is that Mumbai's geography of Bollywood corresponds pretty much exactly to Mumbai's geography of wealth. The city Bollywood knows is that of the haves. The city it pays no mind to is that of the have-nots.

When did all this family business even start ?

compare karishma's debut and struggle with Kareena's.

Most of the superstars of older years are outsiders. When did this obsession with starkids start ?

With ABjr and HR (i think) or even before that ?????
