Yes, Indra even though being the head of devas, he mostly behaved like an asura only. We know this Indra is a title and the person changes in each era.

But in all time period, Indra has misbehaved with a woman or tried to disturb the penance of rishis for his own cause.

I like the stories, where Indra faces much trouble.😉

Indra roaming freely. Good question by Laxman. For me Indra had been a classic case of born in a good family, but on most occasions misuse it, then come crying to someone powerful to solve his problems.

And the Tridev has to find some solution because, even though they want to punish Indra, they cannot allow the world or other Devas to pay for the mistakes of Indra.

@Shruthi: Yes, Indra is a spoiled brat.

Both Lord Vishnu and Shiva gave time for asura's to increase their sin thereby indirectly to give punishment for Indra, before destroying them.
