Comparing Neerja with Kapoor and Sons, Airlift and Ki and Ka. WTH.
Neerja had Sonam and Shabana Azmi.

Rest of the films had very well known actors and were backed by big production houses. So... comparing Neerja isn't done.

That i agree with. Neerja is its own category.
Airlift also, is backed by a superstar like Akshay Kumar.

But Ki and Ka and Kapoor and Sons can easily be compared. Both are films aimed at multiplexes, similar budgets, rom coms/sweet stories, not for the single screen masses, no big hero to back them up.

1600. Kapoor and Sons got 1500 screens. Not that different.

It got more or less same opening weekend as Kapoor and Sons, and so far has beat Neerja, so how is it after only 3 days not like them? Not to mention, it faced competition from Kapoor and Sons trending well after WOM has already caught up.

Dont imply I'm the only one lumping them together.
A trade analyst. did. I personally think it needs more to become a hit but all. But to say that it can't even be COMPARED to the other too is just downright silly tbh.

Portals and websites are saying it's on the right track

.@sonamakapoor ki #Neerja HIT Rishi @chintskap Kapoor ki #KapoorAndSons HIT #KareenaKapoor @Arjunk26 Kapoor ki #KiAndKa HIT Kapoors ROCK:)

- 1st reason for comparison is the fact that Ki & Ka, Neerja, K& S target the same audience.

- & then comes Airlift which had the highest amount of screens. But this is another comparison, it is one that has more to do with the state of the trade in general.
(i remember, Airlift & Neerja were compared because of their genres, when the latter had like a 3rd of the screens the former had. This is also another comparison)

As for claiming Ki & Ka is not a hit😆😉:
we will need to see the breakdown of the ROI to know if with 1600 screens, the distributors lost or made money. As is, K&K made money for their makers, definitely!
So, the argument that only K&S suffered from competition & cricket is bull as Neerja had the same issues, non? & 100 screens lesser than Ki &Ka does not make much of a difference for K&S. & wasnt a holiday in during the K&S run.

Airlift definitely won so much because of a holiday or two, way bigger release & no competition.

Ki and Ka is a hit. It recovered investment and made a profit. India is a massive country, you can't expect films to do well all over. Plus we're talking about a generation that's still stuck on Diya Aur Baati Hum, Saathiya and Sasural Simar Ka.

😆
Funny fact is, all these movies got at least double amount of screens & so much more going on for them, compared to Neerja. So comparing is not really making any of them look good.
But fanwars. What can we do. 😆😆

K&K is trending way much better than all the "bad" reviews & shortcomings in the script were implying. K&S has slowed down earlier than expected, despite being loved as well. & there are still a few screens showing Neerja. It all boils down to this: same audience.

Final ROI analysis will tell which movie is the bigger winner out of all but Ki & Ka is not a flop. Far from it.

With 38 cr + India only, K&K is now in profit zone if we were only going to judge by the theatrical release. It is a semi-hit after 1 week. If it resists the Jungle book release, K&K will make it to the 50 cr projection. That alone should make it a HIT for a total budget of 30 cr .
