How is Ki and Ka different from Kapoor and Sons and Neerja again?

The film has scored the third highest weekend of 2016:

Airlift - 44.3 crore
Kapoor & Sons - 26.35 crore
Ki & Ka - 25.23 crore
Ghayal Once Again - 23.25 crore
Neerja - 22.01 crore
Wazir - 21.01 crore

It got more or less same opening weekend as Kapoor and Sons, and so far has beat Neerja, so how is it after only 3 days not like them?

I didn't lump.
A trade analyst. did. I personally think it needs more to become a hit but all. But to say that it can't even be COMPARED to the other too is just downright silly tbh.

Portals and websites are saying it's on the right track

Neerja ka case u can say different it got 700 screens only later after first week the screens got 800 then in third or fourth week it got doubled and it taxed free too after first week.

Yeah Neerja is different. But KAS and KiAndKa are easily comparable. Both released in the midst of cricket. Wasn't the final this Sunday?

So how much Kapoor and sons got the excuse that it battled cricket, but Ki and Ka is SO below it?

Airlift is also different coz Akshay Kumar is a really big male superstar.

Feeling proud of third highest weekend based on the slowest quarter of any year in terms of business? Thats going to be kicked out in 10 days time...and possibly by end of the month it will be the 5th highest weekend. 😆By the end of the year it(or even K&S) will be lucky to be even in top 10 weekends of 2016.

K&S had to battle India T20 matches including a India-Pak match on its 2nd day which is a big deal and exam season another big deal. Apart from that K&S had to contend with 3 other crucial India matches including the semi-final. It had 1500 screens compared to Ki&Ka's 1700. Ki&Ka had HEAVY promotions in comparison to Airlift, Neeraja and K&S. They were EVERYWHERE. There was/is no T20 threat either with India out of the contention one day before the film released.

And I am not even comparing it to Neeraja which had only 900 screens but from the second week onwards got the benefit of tax rebates.

Ki&Ka couldnt even manage positive reviews. I would have been rooting for it if it did get good reviews and actually made a statement like it was intended to like it happened with K&S. Its no big deal if some trade guys praise the film...they praise pretty much every film even if the trend is average. Its low costs will probably even make it profitable. But to me it didnt trend as well as other films did with the same target audience and neither did it garner critical acclaim as it was intended to hence its simply an average fare and cant be lumped with the other major commercial and critical successes of 2016 so far. Now beyond this if you want to celebrate a 'success' its your call.

I guess only positive is despite the poor reviews its not another GTPM so that saves Kareena's blushes (which Fitoor couldnt do with Katrina) and gives her some leeway to wait for another romcom with a younger actor.

Edit add: Have limited posts so responding to desigal's post below. My point is that K&S had many factors going AGAINST it while Ki&Ka had none of those factors. In addition it had more screens. Yet it couldnt manage to trend better than K&S and neither garner good reviews. In 3 days its collection went below K&S when the first two days were above it. So dont lump them together and pass off Ki&Ka as being as successful as K&S. Now Ki&Ka still has two weeks to catch up. If lifetime exceeds K&S then lump them together.

I dont remember fans of the actors of K&S trying to lump it with another film or celebrating or gloating over something which is non-existent.

The reviews were negative but audience feedback is positive, which is why it held up on Monday. Otherwise it would have crashed. It's especially hit spot with house wives.

The point isn't that it's the third highest. the point is, look at it's comparison. It's right up there with the films that you claim are so much ABOVE it.

Even KAS will be kicked out of top whatever as more films come. The point was to point that out.

On Sat, if a movie makes 50% more than its opening, the trend is called healthy. WOM doesn't matter if the trend the movie showing isn't healthy.

If a movie makes MORE THAN double of its budget (Including publicity cost) it can be called a hit.

A movie makes money from various sources:

Half of the worldwide theatrical collection + Music rights + Satellite rights + DVD rights + Brand endorsements

Only Khans movies make a lot of money from the italicized sources above, so the money a non-Khan movie is making from the italicized sources doesn't add that much. Of course there are exceptions - BM is one of them.

Some low budget movies don't even earn from music/DVD rights, coz they give those rights to the TV channels they've sold their movie to.

ETA : + the money earned from satellite/music/brand/DVD goes mostly to the producers, not to the distributors. So, we shouldn't count the money earned form those sources unless the movie was sold to the distributors with sat rights.

It has been a wonderful learning for us and I think it happens in the west as well. We released the film on 700 screens, but due to the appreciation, the screen count increased in the second week to 1000 screens. Usually, the screen count comes down to 400 or 300 screens in the second week, but due to the demand, we had to increase the screen count fox ceo Vijay singh.. paniuti tooth gayi😆

regarding kas it had to go thru crucial matches time also next day was india/pak match.but it went thru⭐️ anyways kika which I hoped will be finished around less is actually doing better inspite of overrated balki and very mixed wom
