A debate with a member on Ki and Ka's topic.
So do you agree? Neerja, Kapoor and Sons, possibly Ki and Ka, even if they recover costs of film and distributers, they are not considered "hits"?

"This film along with all those new-age cinema kind recent films this year are bunch of jokes. They all are just 4-5 cities HIT film, not all india level kind real HIT film.

List includes K&S, Neerja, DDD... they all had just 75 lacs footfalls, which is the real TRUTH. So face it, it might get HIT, but not Real HIT which they should have got."

When I think of the "hit" title I think of financial success + a success among the audiences, however how the trade analysts define it it's mainly money orientated. Also, what is this "Hit in 5 cities" are we really going to go into THAT much detail 😆. Rest, depends on how you want to see it.

So how would you definite "Financial success"?
Recovery of film budget plus the budget of distribution and all costs right?

Any movie that makes profits for the producer and distributors, or a certain percentage of profit I suppose. I honestly don't get the arguement of 4-5 city hit vs all India hit. A hit is a hit, profits are profits. Especially when you specifically made the movie for urban audiences and kept your budget under control like Piku or K&S, and possibly Ka&Ki.

What is a Hit ????

H is for the humor a film must have . Any script could do well to fit in a few jokes

I is for the Intelligence . The film must be smart . Not Harvard smart . But atleast have a coherent story

T is for the Titillating action . What is movie without violence and hot girls of course

A hit IMO is the film which trends well among its target audience and makes profits for distributors and exhibitors. Not every film these days is released at all India levels so its not fair to expect every film to be a all India hit when it doesnt even reach the public. Ofcourse the reason is also because public at certain places wouldnt be interested in these films. Its ofcourse great if it becomes a all India success but these days distributors dont even release films like they used to. The business model itself is changing as audience is fragmented. I guess only certain big budget films have big releases and they are ofcourse expected to be all India hits and make profits for all exhibitors and distributors.

And KiAndKa is not a hit. Definitely it shouldnt be tagged with films like K&S, Neerja, Airlift looking at its average performance. These three were critical and commercial successes and trended really well. Neeraja and K&S had less screens than Ki&Ka. K&S had to battle exams and T20 and yet Ki&Ka is below K&S. At best it will be an average fare but its hilarious that its being tagged with these three films and pushed here on this forum by some people as a major hit. 😆

How many screens was Kapoor and Sons released on? Ki and Ka got
1600. Kapoor and Sons got 1500 screens. Not that different.

It got more or less same opening weekend as Kapoor and Sons, and so far has beat Neerja, so how is it after only 3 days not like them? Not to mention, it faced competition from Kapoor and Sons trending well after WOM has already caught up.

Dont imply I'm the only one lumping them together.
A trade analyst. did. I personally think it needs more to become a hit but all. But to say that it can't even be COMPARED to the other too is just downright silly tbh.

Portals and websites are saying it's on the right track

I'm just confused. To me it seems like the start of Ki and Ka is similar to Kapoor and Sons and Neerja. These are niche films that are growing due to WOM.
KRK BOX OFFICE @KRKBoxOffice

#KiAndKa Collected approx 4Cr on Monday means film is holding very well at multiplexes.

Devansh Patel @PatelDevansh Mumbai, India

#KiAndKa does 25.23 crores on Fri + Sat + Sun. That's amazing keeping in mind the cricket frenzy the nation was gripped with. @arjunk26

Joginder Tuteja @Tutejajoginder

Ki&Ka records fantastic opening weekend collection of Rs. 25.23 cr India NBOC (Fri: Rs. 7.30 cr, Sat Rs. 8.41 cr and Sun: Rs. 9.52 cr)
